but what is going to happen to all the people who use AIG for their home insurance, and were affected by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike?
If bailing them out doesn't work, and they file bankrupty, then they don't have to help their customers. It makes me wonder if they waited until after the hurricanes to release that they were failing, and are just *trying* to cover their asses,
(and it just may be coincidence, but my paranoia says other wise)

Those covered for the hurricaines would have to have been covered before the storms hit, anyway. It's not like the storms would have brought a large increase in clientele, I think. There could be lots of people who signed up right before the storms hit, but they won't have lost years and years worth of investment in their insurance.

That is what I meant. My inlaws use AIG for all their insurance, and they have a house on the Gulf Coast.
What i am curious about is the timing though.
