my LO is 9 weeks old and for about the last 7-10 days he's been acting different while nursing. 1st, he not nursing as long....maybe 10-15 minutes. 2nd, he does this dive bombing thing about half way through where he's acting all crazy coming off the nipple, back on, squirming.....it's kinda funny....like he's playing with the nipple... but can be annoying. I've been trying to burp him after 5 minutes so I don't think it's gas. Any ideas?

he may be playing. he may be just old enough that he's realized that he's not so tiny that he's gonna nurse to sleep, so he wants to try something different. don't worry, he'll hit the 3 month growth spurt soon enough and his nursing will change again. ;) you can try breast compressions if you think he's wanting more milk, but it doesn't really sound like that's what he's striving for.

my son does the same thing at times and he is about the same age, it kinda hurts when he pulls his head back and is still attached!

What my lc told me when dd started doing that was that she was probably trying to get the milk to come faster. She'd gotten more efficient at getting the milk and wanted it to keep coming when it slowed down.

OK, thanks. Glad to know I'm not alone!

My DD is almost 4 months and she does the same stuff!! Except, she will latch on, and pull away while looking up at me without letting go. Its like she thinks my nipple will stretch for miles!! After a few times of her doing that-she will latch on and pull off over and over again, I can tell shes just playing around so its time to move on to the next thing.
