Hello Ladies
I've been sick the past couple days :(
Sore throat, very stuffy, cough, achy body, the whole nine (except I don't have a fever)
My question is, do your supply suffer when your body is sick? My milk seems to be a lot less... DS is nursing for a much shorter time period before pulling away and getting fussy about keeping a latch...
and today at work i only pumped 3 ounces instead of my usual 6...
my other question is should i be worried about DS catching whatever I have?
Yesterday he slept for what seemed to be all day (which was actually kind of nice because i was so not myself) and he seemed to not eat as eagerly or as often as he usually does. He doesn't have a fever, isn't more fussy than usual and he seems to be fine otherwise- he just slept a LOT and his eating seemed to be off like I said...
today he was awake his normal amount of hours but his eating was the same as yesterday...
anyone have any insight for me?
I feel like poop and dont really feel up to googling all this, besides I trust you guys better than I do the rest of the internet... <3
TIA

Your milk is making antibodies that will help him not catch the cold, or catch it and get over it faster. Just being within 20 feet of him exposes him to your cold, so it's not like he's going to avoid it.

It's normal to have a lowered supply when you are sick. Have him nurse straight from tap as much as you can to keep your supply up, chicken soup, lots of oj and fluids. watch your cold meds, lots can be drying of your sinuses and your milk.
he may be slightly congested in head, ears, or a sore throat which will make him not want to nurse as much. keep an eye on him. he may be sleeping more to keep from getting sick.

I have my second severe cold since Sept 1! The first go-round, I made the mistake of taking cold meds and my milk supply decreased almost overnight to about 2/3 of usual. (I know this because I pump twice during the business day at work and only got 3 ounces each time instead of 5. Also, no engorgement from sleeping 7 hrs at night.) If your taking any decongestant, your supply could be affected by this alone. Not to mention the extra stress on your body from being ill. Don't worry, you'll return to normal as you recover.

my dr always told me that when getting sick the baby will get anti bodies so dont be afriad to be near your nursling but watch some of the meds, lots of rest and fluids is the best thing
