Hello everyone, my name is Katie and I am about to have my first baby girl, I am 19 years old and I need all the support I can get. I am in the hospital right now, as I have been since last night. How long does a woman usually spend in labor? Thank you in advance for your support
And YES I am going to breastfeed!

I spent way too long at the hospital with my first resulting in interventions I had hoped to avoid. It depends on you and your body. But usually the first can take a while.
Congratulations! Hope it goes smoothly and easily for you.
I would recommend posting any questions you have about nursing as you encounter things in teh general board. Those ladies are super smart!
My best nursing advise for the first weeks is to just nurse and nurse and nurse. All day all night, whatever baby wants. Any peep mean go to boob first! Your baby will probably nurse a lot most newborns do and this is normal and a good thing to build up your supply. It will not last forever, you can do it!
Let us know how the delivery goes!

Its pretty slow around here on the weekend but I'm sure as the day goes on you'll get more and more responses.
I don't have any advice on the labor part. I had to have a scheduled c-section due to a placenta previa. The only thing I can say is that going all natural if you can is way easier in the long run. But do what you think is best for you and that baby.
As far as nursing is concerned PM has some great advice for you. It is very normal for a newborn to constantly nurse (specially around 3 and 6wks during the typical growth spurts). So don't be surprised if you spend the first few months with baby permantly attached to your boob. It will pass and things will get easier and you won't regret the choice to stick with it!! Also trust your body to do what it was designed to do, feed your baby. A lot of moms get caught up in the fact that they can't see how much baby is getting. This sometimes leads to pumping and bottle feeding. I was one of those moms so believe me when I say that isn't the route you want to take!! Its so much more work than just breastfeeding. So just remember if baby is gaining weight and giving you the right amount of wet and dirty diapers then your doing good.
Early congrats on being a first time mommy!! I'm a first time mommy too to a beautiful 10mo. old baby girl. It completely changes your life for the better and you'll never know love like you are about to experience. Best of luck on a smooth and easy birth!!!

ITA- nurse, nurse, nurse...at every peep the baby makes.
See if your hospital has a LC or IBCLC on staff...let them know you want to nurse and ask for help as soon as the baby is born. If you're able to try nursing RIGHT AWAY after birth, that helps!
Good luck on your labor and delivery!

It takes as long as it takes. Likely less than 24 hours.
Come back and tell us how it's going. Also, we love baby pictures, so feel free to show us your beautiful baby.

Hi Katie. My name is Katie. *giggle*
Labor can differ with each pregnancy.
Can't wait to hear the news of your little one. IA nurse right after birth if at all possible.
