I wa always told that if you let your little one eat to many bananas that is can stop them up. My MIL said that because it is a fruit it doesn't do that. I was just asking because MIL has been feeding DS bananas almost every day that she has him, he likes them, and his poop went from being the normal soft goiy poop at the beginning of the week to firm but still scwishy round balls by the weekend. He hasn't had any cereal for about two weeks and the only other thing he has been getting quite frequently would be vanila waifers.

Some fruits can cause constipation - bananas being one of them. Actually, even non-constipating fruits like pears can even cause constipation in a baby's system who isn't ready for them! But bananas are one of those constipating foods even in adults.
The cookies he's getting can also cause constipation. (I'm guessing the vanilla wafers are the same basic ones I'm thinking of - that they don't have whole grain cookies of that sort out).

Bananas can cause him to be bound up. When children have diarrhea and other tummy issues, we are told to put them on the "brat" diet. Bananas, Rice, Apples, and Toast. Those are all things that help to make the poo a little more solid.

We always limit the amount of bananas dd eats to avoid constipation.

This is true for us too:) She loves her bananas but we definitely do limit consumption.

Bananas constipate my ds. He would eat a whole one every day if I let him.

Bananas are funny like that. But they are baby crack at my house. DD ate a whole bunch in a week and she was backed up for two days. Poor dd... I know to limit them to every other day now.

Yup we have to limit bananas too otherwise the piping gets all slowed down and his poops go exactly as you described. My baby is 9 months and we are still only on fruits and veggies and occassional cereal (anything with iron seems to stop him up too). Someone told me it can be more common in BFd babies because breastmilk is so easy to digest, it takes their little bellies longer to get used to processing food.

Yep, which is why it's part of the BRATT diet.
