Yes, my OB had me take them through my pregnancy and while breastfeeding. I read alot about it and it's suppose to really help with the unborn baby's brain. With continued use (by you while pregnant and nursing) it has been proven to help with brain developement!

My dr hasn't mentioned anything about these. Can you purchase over the counter or do you have to ask the pharmacist?

I just take fish oil. I believe that's the natural equivalent.

Nope. They really don't have much in them compared with the regular fish oil tablets. So I stick to fish oil.

I take fish oil when I think about it. They are much cheaper.

I take it because I don't eat fish and don't get omega 3s that way. I do eat omega 3 eggs but I figured, "what the hell" my baby could use all the help he can get! I think its not a necessary though.

I take fish oil also (and did during pregnancy as well).

If a mom eats a well balanced diet she doesn't need any vitamins. Bf or not. Your baby certainly gets everything needed from you. As a nursing mom I would probably step up calcium consumption but I have not taken any vitamins after I gave birth and only took my prenatals before getting pregnant and a couple of months into my third pregancy (the other two I took it all through pregnancy). The folic acid is what made me take it for that period. Other than that I saw/see to it that I eat plenty of veggies, beans, some meat/fish, eggs and fruit.

I did take the 5 I got for free from my pediatrician, but I took a rainbow light prenatal dha supplement the entire pregnancy. My baby is two months old but is physically and mentally at about 4 months old. Size-wise she is her age, but for her physical strength she is very advanced. She can hold her neck very well, she can support the weight on her legs, she can do mini-push ups. We've also been able to teach her several signs in sign language and she can use them properly. For the money, I'd definitely recommend the rainbow light prenatal pack, which has a great prenatal vitamin and a dha supplement. I spent between 15-28 dollars a month (sometimes they'd run sales) on this over the counter vitamin pack available at any whole foods store and most health food stores.
