Does anyone here work at home? What do you do? I am just curious how it works? 40 hours a week is KILLING me (I go to school twice a week at night too and am missing my baby-time TERRIBLY!) My degree is a priority (only a year and a half left)..but I am feeling very strained and actually feeling a little depressed to be honest. I want to find something that will still give me an income - ideally even part time outside of the house, but was wondering what others did from home.
I saw this advertised here on this website: http://www.ourmomteam.com/
Just curious about it.

I don't really consider myself a WAHM, but I do tutor high school kids in the evenings. What is your major? When I was a college student I made pretty good money by tutoring other students in math and chemistry classes. College level math tutors are almost always in high demand at college.

Oh gosh - I WISH I could tutor in math, but honestly it is my WORST subject! LOL! I took my two required classes and was relieved to be done with it! I am a Communications major with a focus on promotions. Unfortuantely, the kinds of jobs that I would be applying for (Marketing, Public Relations) are not really hiring in this economy, so it has me a bit worried. I'm not really looking for that right now anyway. Right now I REALLY want a job that will allow me to have a bit more time at home so that I don't feel so overwhelmed and can be with my ds more often...Ideally part-time would be great, but I just wonderd what kinds of things WAHM's did. The only thing that is good about working 40 hoiurs is the somewhat decent paycheck (although, couldn't we ALL be paid a bit more?) :)
<sigh> I have just been a bit down lately about work, that's all. Just hoping to find something that makes me feel better about my schedule.

I sort of work from home. I spend about 10 hours per week in the office. When the baby comes, I'll be taking him/her with me for the first few months. I have one one hour class I go to each week with my staff and I'm out of the house alot for fall and spring training as well as a few other times (fundraisers). All of this we're able to work primarily around DH's work schedule since his is flexible as well. I typically only have a baby sitter for one hour a week. I'm a resident director (dorm mom) for a small college. So my home is in the dorm and alot of my work is done from here.

I also don't consider myself a WAHM because my hours are never consistant, and are few and far between, but I run a small photography business out of my garage, and do on location shoots.

I work at home typing medical transcripts Monday-Friday. I type during DS's naps mostly and when DH gets home because a 15 month old is very needy, so I do not get a lot done when he is awake during the day. As a matter of fact, DS is getting really cranky right now and will be going down for a nap in a minute. If you want any more information regarding medical transcription or regular transcription, you can PM me and I will get back to you some time tonight. Working at home can be difficult when the kids are babies, but it is worth it for sure!!

I work at home 2 days out of the week, I spend four hours a day the other 3 days of the work week. I guess i'm 1/2 a WAHM :)
I work for a non profit.

I agree with boobysnacks about work being difficult to do from home with a tiny one... but I'm very glad I get the time I do with him, and I can nurse him while reading/sending off emails! hurray! :)

You might also want to be careful about sites that promise good income while working from home. Many are scams. There was an interesting article in Brain Child about it: http://www.brainchildmag.com/essays/summer2008_schultz.asp

I'm actually not sure. When I applied originally for the job I didnt know I would be able to work from home, and I dont think anyone works remotely only there. (most people do what i do, part time in office part time from home) The office is in Westport, Ct and there is also an office in DC. I will find out for you if its possible to work completely remote and PM you. Its really an awesome organization to work for, I cant say enough about it!
