I've been breastfeeding my 5 month old, and all of a sudden my nipples started to completely hurt as if she was chomping down on them with teeth. I looked and they are cracked and red. I've been putting on the lansinloh cream. Is my milk drying up and she is just suckling on my breast and nothing is coming out?

she is probably begining to teethe.
you could also have thrush.
I doubt it's cause you have no milk, or you'd notice a significant drop in # of diapers, non-stop nursing and cranky baby and more.

Does she have any teeth? I would suspect thrush as well, you need to stop using lanolin as that will make the thrush worse. Does your baby have any white patches in her mouth? You need to treat mom and baby together for a successful treatment. Here is the link for treating with GSE, it is the most effective and you can get it at a health food store. www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.asp

For pain management you can take up to 800mg of motrin a half hour prior to each nursing session, use www.soothies.com , and for a solution that is a great long term investment, you could look into owning a pair of silverette, they really help heal nipple trauma quickly and without the use of creams or concoctions. You can read more about it here: www.breastfeedingheaven.com
