Positive in this case means greater than 1 in 100. I tested at 1 in 31. This means that there is a little over 3% chance that my baby has Trisomy 18. I have an appt with the genetic specialist and detailed ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday now. Greater than 96% definately sounds like good odds, but I'm still nervous since this is likely our last chance at having a baby. (And we don't qualify for adoption even so we're out of luck if this pregnancy doesn't work out). Keep your fingers crossed for me! I'm already high risk due to other unrelated issues.

I tested positive too - I am now Mom to DS healthy and happy (at least usually :)) at nearly seven weeks.
If you are AMA (over 35 like me) I guess this usually happens. This was a long week wait for our level 2 U/s to confirm there were no problems. Ours was a predictor of HBP later on in Pg which did happen.

PS adding if I ever do decide to get pg again I would not have this test again.

What's HBP?
I am 35, but not by much. Technically, this baby was conceived with a 34 year old egg. I realize that still increases the risk on paper, but looking at stats, it really doesn't increase it by much. (Not like AMA later on).
I had the quad screen done but denied all the regular AMA testing since I figured I didn't really need it. (Also, I'm high risk to begin and had lots of intervention first trimester and will likely third trimester too, so I wanted one trimester of feeling normal!) It's actually not a bad thing that I was referred to the materal-fetal specialist since I need to ask her about my clotting disorder as well to see if I'm supposed to be on heparin/lovenox. (Niether my RE nor OB think I need it but I'd feel better with a fetal-maternal specialist's opinion).
I would still get the quad screen done again. (Though this is my last pg, so it's not an issue). I'm a math person so I didn't take the nurse's statement of "positive" and hang up the phone - I made sure I knew what the exact stat was.

T&P to you and your sweet little baby! I turned 35 two weeks before giving birth to DS and I was a bit worried in the beginning because the OB I was seeing while my regular OB was on maternity leave kept referring to me as advanced maternal age..I mean, come on..I wasn't like I conceived at 50. I am sorry your tests came back positive, but I know that a lot of times, it all turns out ok. My friend's wife stressed her whole 3rd and 4th pregnancies because she tested positive with both pregnancies. The babies are healthy, happy and right on time with everything. Positive energy sent to you *hugs*

You are in my thoughts. I had my first at 34y/o and my second at 36, and we said we wouldn't have the amnio a 2nd time, but we did...only b/c the risk factor of down syndrome was higher. But, everybody is doing great and healthy!

Very low odds. My numbers were WAY up there. I have a healthy baby. How was the ultrasound? My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ooops - I forgot to update on this thread!
The ultrasound went very well - not a single marker! I did decline the amnio, the risks of loss from amnio are not worth it with my history. They were unable to see the heart well enough since I wasn't far enough along. I have another ultrasound at 25 weeks pg to check that. (There's higher risks of heart defects with Trisomy 18 but also with my screwy insulin issues). Though I know there's still a chance of Trisomy 18, I havent' been worried about it after the good ultrasound.
