Hello,

I have a two month old son and just recently when it comes time for his last feed before bed he gets very fussy. He latches okay but then pulls off really upset. He will latch again but pull off again and start crying. When I try to express manually to see if I have milk, I do get some so I don't know whats wrong. Is he just tired? I will rock him to try and calm him down and eventually he will fall asleep but I do not want to deprive him of his last feed if he is hungry? Anyone know whats going on?

Maybe he is over tired. I seem to remember Rylan doing that when he was overtired or I had waited to long to feed him. I would try feeding him a little earlier and see if that helps. My son used to have a cranky time every evening. I think he was just overstimulated.

Are you concerned about baby's growth? Is he gaining weight? Is he making 6-8 wet diapers a day. If so, I wouldn't worry too much if he doesn't take the feed. Just walk, rock, pat, sing, or whatever works bests. If you want to make sure he goes to bed with a tummy full of milk, you could try a dream feed. Nurse baby before you go to bed. Baby shouldn't wake up completely. I used to do this with Rylan to ensure that I got as much sleep as possible before baby woke for a feeding. In his half awake stage Rylan would latch on and nurse for about 10 minutes, then we would go to bed together.

My babies like to comfort nurse at night and do get frustrated when the milk actually comes out because they are using me as a pacifier;-)
