Some of you may remember I posted a few months ago about that I hadn't had a period in three
months. I was scared that I might be in early menopause, and felt like crying, because this
would mean the chance for more babies is truly gone. It was suggested I get some labs drawn.
Yeah, did that.
FSH is 35.
Now I really am crying.
Normal FSH day 3 value is 3-20 mlU/ml
FSH levels above 10 to 12 mlu/ml indicate that your ovaries are starting to fail. In other words,
this means that you are in perimenopause -- the beginning stages of menopause when you notice
physical symptoms, but before you have stopped having a period for a year, or have "diminished
ovarian reserve"
Higher FSH levels -- levels about 30 to 40 or above -- are usually taken to signal menopause or
ovarian failure. You may even be getting periods with your FSH levels this high, but it still is a
sign that your body isn't producing enough estrogen to maintain regular ovarian function.

Oh Viva I am so sorry. I really don't know much about it but can you take estrogen pills or anything to slow down the process? Are you actively TTC just in case your ovaries are still working?

We had to do fertility to get pregnant with the one that we lost in between Katie and Phillip and again with Phillip. We decided that we weren't going to do fertility again, because it was really difficult.
So I knew that the chance was low to have another, but we were still kind of hoping. (me much more so than DH) I was sad about it, but was still holding out some small hope.
To have that TOTALLY taken away has just thrown me for a loop.
And it's 4:30 AM, and I just happened to wake up, the kids were asleep and DH is working, so I thought I'd catch up on a bunch of mail I hadn't gotten to. My lab results were in that pile.
So, here I am, bawling, in the middle of the night.

I am so sorry, is there any chance you could use fertility treatments asap, just to try and squeese the last chance out?

I am so sorry viva (((HUG))).
FWIW both of my grandmas and 2 of my aunts conceived in pre-menopause. They were in their late 30s and early 40s. That is when my mom and her twin brother were conceived.
I wish you peace during this time.

Viva, if you don't mind, were your fertility treatments pretty invasive because I had to use an RE as well for my last pregnancy and I was going to suggest just that, I was able to get pregnant on the first round, I got really lucky! I could see how it would get frustrating pretty quickly.
My DH says he would not permit himself to go that route again:( So, it seems like the end for me as well:( So, who do I ask if I want that lab drawn?
I'm sorry, I wish it was different for you{{{hugs}}}

Viva, I'm so sorry. I, too, would need fertility treatment (IVF) if I wanted a real shot at another child but I am holding out a tiny bit of hope for the very unlikely natural pregnancy, and I can imagine how you must be feeling. One FSH level may not be conclusive - maybe you just got your all-time worst month. This forum HERE (http://www.network54.com/Forum/209394/) is a wealth of information about high FSH - you can post there to get some good info.

I'm sorry I've been there. I was told my FSH levels were high a while back. That my chances even with IVF were low. I have endometriosis which is probably what damaged my ovaries and the surgery to remove the endometrioma's damaged them further. We had been ttc for a few years...we were able to get pg via IVF and I'm now 20 weeks. I've found this high FSH board very helpful. There is hope.
