I know nobody here (save for one or two) has any reason to actually believe things I say but I do promise this is true. It's hilarious and sounds like I was being Punk'd or something but no, this woman is real.
On her first day of work she had a rep from the local newspaper come in. This was news to DH and I. The rep was there to take a few pics and get some ad copy for the article. "Article?", you say? See, you can buy a small arfticle, which is really an ad but LOOKS like a normal write up, for $3,000. Yes three grand. Ouch! Well, Casey**, the employee, arranged to buy this article and have 2 of her pics added to it. She wanted to title it "Casey **** joins D*******s Jewelers".
Oh and we're supposed to pay for it. LOL Isn't that cute!? Spending your employers money to advertise yourself.
Well, well... someone's ego is a wee out of check, ya think?
Can you IMAGINE? Going to work on your first day and arranging for this ad to get yourself in the business section of the paper and footing your brand new employers with the fat bill! LOL You just can't make this stuff up.
She also called DH, on her second day, to complain about 101 things I did.
"It's not professional for her to be in uniform in there... it looks like something bad is always happening in here.."
"It's not right that she picks up Jack and brings him back here. This isn't a daycare....it's not right to have him hanging around here after school."
"She snapped at me about calling this place John D***** Jewelers...said "It's our store with our family name on the wall, Casey, it's not John's store."
"I think it's unprofessional that she lets her friend come sit and hang out in here. I think we should talk to her about that." (we?)
And then the kicker...as relayed by DH, "Part of the reason I wanted to work here so much was to get away from women bosses.. it gets so catty. I'm not saying Tricia is like that I just mean that I think you and I can make a great team, you know?"
That's about 1/10th of the little things. And that's wny in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, she'll comed to work only to be told to collect whatever she has in the store and leave.
Some employers dread this stuff. I look forward to it. I consider it cleaning house and I get the same satisfaction from it thaty I get from bleaching my bathrooms and having sparkly clean tubs. It's relieving!
lol... an ad with her picture on it ....and I'm supposed to pay. Precious!

Holy Moly. She tattled on you to your husband? People are really creative. Shame she couldn't put her creativity to better use.
Maybe you could take out an ad saying "Casey gets fired from ***** for being a Dingleberry!!"

and a 3000 dollar ad for herself, beyond wow. I would be calling the newspaper to let them know what happened and that you will not be paying for it.

Some people are so full of themselves, ya know? How about if I come work for you ~ you know I love jewelry and I'll only hit you up for a small ad (maybe one of me wearing some kickass rings) when I become part of your team...rotflmao...
Have fun parting ways with a total fucknut, Tricia! Be sure and come back and give us the scoop when it's over!

ooo ooo are you gonna fire her while you are in uniform? If you are you should escort her out as well that should knock some of the wind out of her sails.

Unfortunately I believe it because I get the calls from the employees complaining that their boss fired them. They were only late 6 times (their first 2 months) and they had a personality difference between them and their manager.
I think that too many people don't understand that they're the employee and the employer is the boss. Employer gets to do things that the employee doesn't. If there's a "personality conflict" who do they think is going to go? The boss/employer or them? They really think that the boss/employer should go.
I'm not talking about the true discrimination and sexual harassment complaints, those are totally different, but the frivilous I'm being treated like an employee rather than a queen complaints are laughable.

Our local newspaper has announcements in the business section, sometimes with little pics "Herbie, Herbie and Assoc. are pleased to announce that Susie Qwue joins their firm as receptionist" and i'm always wodnering who gives a shit and why this info is in the newspaper.
Anyways, if you're local business section has one of those I would totally put in a blurb that "TW's Jewelers announces staff restructuring and sadly Hoochie McBitcherson will be leaving us" Or when you hire her replacement "announce" that "New Employee replaces Hoochie McBitcherson"

Are you fucking kidding me?
I have to add on, as I am riding a similar plane these days...
Dear Employee's (DE) boyfriend is creeping in again- DE is married, her DH is ill so she has a lover on the side. Nice eh? Well the lover took a liking to hanging out A LOT early on and would often get up from the bar and follow her around the dining room, but act like he is lending a hand. We are FINE DINING, not a family joint. We dealt with it and he backed down.
Months and months later he is escalating, I suspect bc I hired a new male bartender, granted he is half DE's age, but still... so last night DE's lover was ALL over the flipping dining room, talking to guests, having a good ol time telling them how great DE is and what an asset she is to us... UGH! I asked him a few times to sit down and he completely ignored me. HE followed her to the cash drawer as she was running people's credit cards, into the waitstation and on and on.
So, DE was put on official warning. We had been down this road before and they are shitting on me. DH called the guy this am and let him know he is about to cost DE's job and this is the last straw. We are on of the most sucessful places in town right now. THe LEAST the server makes a shift is 125- unheard of in this market. I could fill the spot in 10 minutes. I will NOT be intimidated in my own place. I will NOT be undermined, and I will NOT listen to someone else gloat as if it is all theirs.
Sorry for the hijack. Mine is way more petty, your's has so much more substance.

What a piece of work. I am grateful to not have to deal with employees anymore. People are freaks sometimes.
I interviewed a girl one time and got a strange vibe from her. So I was taking my time deciding on whether to hire her or not. She called me one day and went OFF on me. "Are you going to hire me OR WHAT?! I can't believe the way you are TREATING me!" etc. etc. She just kept saying "ARE YOU GOING TO HIRE ME OR WHAT?!!!??"
Freak.

Actually if I were TW, I'd be careful for a bit. She sounds almost obsessed with the job and clearly viewed TW as an outsider. Expecting them to pay $3k is just not in the normal scope of thinking. I totally have some OTT Lifetime movies going thought my head but hey, some of them are based on true stories!

10-03-2008, 01:29 PM

Of course they can always say that with the economy being tricky right now, they'll have to cut ties with their newest employee because they don't know if they can afford to keep her on in the future.

Doesn't TW live in VA? It's a no-fault state, so would she be able to? File a wrongful termination suit, I mean.

Hey, TW, there is a great flick called All About Eve, this sounds like it fits.

TuetonicWillow

lol I'm not hiding any body.
She did get a little weird. It's a very long story but suffice it to say she's not mentally balanced. I mean, that much is evident just in the ad-article story alonge but it goes a lot deeper than that.
When she showed up (30 minutes late) she showed me some low-calorie snack she bought 'for us to all share'. I told her "Why don't you hang on to your crackers and let's go to the office and have a chat." It went sour from there.
First came the faux understanding. Then came the tears. Then came the begging for a second chance. Then the "Fine, I don't NEED a job, anyway. I will just go!' Good riddance.
I know she went crawling back to her previous employer because they called me this afternoon to ask me if she had quit or been let go. I told them she was not employeed with us and she'd never be invited back- that's all. Then I got bizarre calls from other local jewelers telling me she'd called to tell them this or that- really nutty shit, most of it really random and off the wall.
She's prretty psycho. I'm glad I saw it so soon. I think I need to be a lot more intimately involved in selecting who gets hired from now on.
PS- Thank you, Kerry. :)
QuiltyConscience
10-03-2008, 11:02 PM
Yikes. What was she hoping to accomplish by calling other jewelers about you? Sorry you had to deal with that, and I hope she leaves you alone.
Babyblue
10-03-2008, 11:03 PM
is anything she called and said to other jewelers going to impact your business?
Im sorry she turned out to be unstable, you more then a lot of people I know should be well able to take care of yourself, but just watch out for her in the future. who knows how nutty or vindictive she may get and call me paranoid right now but I don't want her to hurt your kids.
TuetonicWillow
10-04-2008, 12:12 AM
Nahhh.. she couldn't hurt me if she tried. And quite honestly, the random things she said to various people aren't even all about me or my family business. Like I said, it was really bizarre. For example, she called an independant metals broker that 75% of the local jewelers use to let him know she was not only fired by me, but 'blacklisted' in the area. Why? What the hell would he care? He doesn't even KNOW her.
It's very strange. SHE is very strange. People like that tend to burn bridges everywhere they go. I guess it's not so bad that she's only really the second complete whack job we've had to deal with in 8 years, though. For the most part, we've been lucky. We have a small operation and relied on the same core group of people/employees for a few years. (All of them are thrilled she won't be back lol)

TW, I'd suggest you send this story into Reader's Digest. You could get $50 for good fiction! Don't let it on it's a true story, though. They'll give you points for creativity!
