Hi-
2 Week postpartum mother describes her breastmilk as bright yellow. She says it had changed from colustrum to transition milk but is now yellow. She does not eat alot of carrots or other beta carotene foods, but is taking a prenatal vitamin, ibuprofin, and Colace. Would any of these cause the bright color or do you have any other thoughts or advice for this mother? I am a peer counselor for WIC. Thanks,
Sarah

Sarah, thatnks for your question. Breastmilk often comes in different colors, even green. Possibly has something to do with what she eats, but I am not sure. Is she producing plenty of milk?

unfortuately she is supplementing quite a bit and only pumps 3x per day. This is the first contact I have had with her so of course I will be addressing those issues along with a respose on her "color" question. Thanks,
Sarah

Perhaps her milk has not competely transitioned to mature milk. Is the baby breastfeeding?

That's what I was thinking. Just spoke with her to work on how to get the baby back on the breast, skin to skin, latch etc. I will check in daily over the next few days and see where things lead. Thanks again for your feedback.

I would quickly get very aggressive in increasing her supply.
