hi... i'm a first time breastfeeder... after some telking/reading on here i'm a little more cofident about the actual breastfeeding... but... i have to go back to work nov. 8th... (baby born 9/9/08) and i wanna start pumping to stock up on milk so that there will be plenty. i have a playtex embrace electric pump. i've attempted to pump but am only getting if i'm lucky, 5-10cc of milk. when would be the best time during the day to pump? and when should i be concerned that i'm not getting enough milk. i would really like to avoid formula.. Also... i do i help the hindmilk come down? i'm not sure he's getting much of that

I am sorry to report that I am not getting good feedback form moms about that pump. Tell me about his weights.

We want your baby to be back to birth weight by day 10. Some people are returning that pump even though used, because some are getting some bruising. I would return it and get a different one--Medela or Ameda. I would want you to supplement this baby with any pumped milk or donor milk or if none is available, use formula. It is important to get your baby gaining an ounce a day quickly while you are working to build up your supply.

I would take it back to the place where it was bought-or let someone more assertive, if need be, take it back and tell them it doesn't work. They should take it back without question. If not, call the company and tell them.

could it be possible that my supply is low???? he's wetting 6-8 diapers a day if not more and having 3-4 brown seedy like poops a day... should i consider taking fenugreek? wouldn't that help with the weight gain??

Based on his weight we will assume your supply is down. It may be that he is just not emptying the breast which is what a really good pump can do for you. The sooner he gets caught up to the appropriate weight the sooner he will do a better job of removing milk. I would get agressive with increasing your milk. Check out MotherLove.com
