I am nursing for the first time in three births. I was unable to with my first child due to severe anemia, and my second son just could not latch on. Now with my third, I am finally able to share this experience with my newest son. However, it has seemed from the start like he was not getting enough milk from me, so I have had to start supplementing. Today I tried to pump at a regular feeding interval so I could save the milk for him, and I was only able to get between 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce between both breasts. Is there any way I could get my milk to produce better so that I may continue to nurse him?

He is 21 days old, and 9 lbs 12 oz. he was 9 lbs wehn he was born, but went to 8 lbs 8 oz while i was in the hospital. they suggested i supplement him since he had some jaundice and did not want to have to prolong the time before he was able to come home.

I would love to see you work with a local board certified lactation consultant. I slso want you to use a hospital grade pump--much more powerful and get aggressive about increasing your production.
