You know the stuff from our parents generation, no carseats, smoking around kids, lead paint and so on.
What are your predictions for things we are doing now that will be considered dangerous by our kids?
My candidates are;
microwaves,
teflon
carseats will improve so they move
epidurals/pitocin/ultrasound in routine use, a lot about how birth is managed
toxicity of materials we come into intimate contact with, clothes, bedding, paints, textiles Etc.

I wonder if my son will be *shocked* that he breastfed until after 3, until well after he could *gasp* ask for it. I hope not, I hope that it is so normal for him that he appreciates it and encourages his wife to BF. But I wonder.
Or cosleeping until he is almost 4 (and still going strong) maybe.

High Fructose Corn Syrup in foods
The high amount of refinds foods we feed our children
Babies being placed in a seperate room to sleep the day of their birth.
How toxic the soaps, shampoos and other body cleansers are.

Carseats.
I cant even imagine how carseats will continue to improve over the years. Ive seen carseats from 10 or so years ago and I think 'How the heck did those things keep kids safe?' im sure they will think the same.
Babies being 'required' to stay in the nursery if they arent being BF.

I think that our kids (younger kids at least) Will be aghast at the way we spent money and all the things we considered so necessary that we were willing go into debt for. I think they will blame us for selling their futures for our todays.

I think she's referring to hospitals that still require babies to stay in the nursery after birth.

plastics.
I had my babies at home and breastfed them, I hope that's the norm to my kids.
Also I have a trunk of my kids things that i'm saving. Whenever I put something new in I imagine passing it on to a grandchild and having a DIL or my dd's saying "OMG! Mom are you crazy!? This isn't safe!"
But so far there are only all cotton clothes, organic cotton blankets and slings and books. So hopefully that will all be safe in 25 years.

Oh and I wonder if the carseats will be so much safer that they will be amazed they survived their britaxes?

I don't know really. I think for the most part we're doing every thing in our knowledge to keep our children safe. None of the stuff in my bringing up shocks me. In a lot of cases I'm lucky to be alive. Growing up in the country I was hardly ever supervised. Maybe it doesn't shock me because I remember most of it and it seemed pretty normal then.
