I sware I could scream!! I keep track of my kids school lunches. I pay for 20 lunches every month. Why is it they come up 2-4 days short every month?? My DS is paid up till the 13.. so why is he calling me.. AGAIN to tell me his account is empty??

Are they allowed to buy extra items a la carte?

I got down to the bottom of it. My DS called to tell me he forgot some items and wants me to run them to him. He's been eating breakfast at school. We went through this last year! I get up, make a nice big breakfast for my kids before they leave for school and then he goes off and eats more at at school for .85 a day.
Time to put a freeze on his account.. again.. for breakfast and talk about what he's going to do for lunch till the 16th. Apparently, he's in the red now for $4.50. I seriously don't know how to get through to this kid most days!

lol. I know its not funny that he is spending money he shouldn't...but isn't that just like a boy to eat 2 breadfasts? :)

I hear ya! We don't keep cold cereal in the house because my 13 year old will fill his bowl 3 times. We have oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast, monster pancakes (Egg based pancakes) juice, fresh fruit, potatoes on any given day.. what's so great about french toast sticks at school?

Maybe it is a social thing? All the other kids do it, they sit around and talk and hang out, and he would feel left out if he didn't participate? I know when I was in highschool stuff like that went on.

This was happening with my ds who is 9. Last year I kept wondering why he was never concerned about not having time to eat breakfast before he got on the bus. It turns out, he thought the offerings for school breakfast were better than what he was offered at home lol! He made the mistake of telling me he had breakfast burritos at school. I do mostly home lunches now and just keep a small balance for mornings that are too rushed to get a lunch made. I DO wish that the school would have asked before letting ds have breakfast there.

I didn't think about that aspect of it. I wish there was a way I could afford it. DH and I qualify for free or reduced lunches. It may be time to look into it. DH refuses but if it will help in any way, I think we need to at least look into what we will be putting out.. Next year we will have 4 in school and the year after that we will have 4 eating lunches. We already put out $100 every month for 3. It will be $130 a month with 4 kids.. IF the prices don't go up again.

I wish we qualified! I'll eventually have 4 in school and our lunches are up to $2.75. They arent' that great either. IF I qualified, I would definately sign up for free lunches.

Mine is 9 this year... I guess the food at school is better then home cooked. I also wish they would get a parents permission for breakfast.

I don't think that it is any better than what you cook at home, just that it is different.

Looked over the paperwork again.. Yep, we easily qualify (if I'm understanding right). Guess that's another thing I will do while I'm at the school today.
