my ds likes to comfort nurse on occasion ... or at least i think thats what he wants. he makes his cues like he is hungry and i go to nurse him and as soon as my milk lets down he freaks out! he pulls off cries, then comes back on and pulls off again. he refuses a paci! ive tried a finger and nothing, he wants to nurse! i dont know what to do for him

comfort nursers are hard when you have a bunch of milk. If he has eaten recently, last hour or so, then put him on the side that is most empty and see if he is happier with the slower flow. Of course, it's hard to know if he is hungry or comforting..but sometimes this "block" feeding will help figure out his cues.

well the problem with that is he goes to sleep around 6pm and then wakes up for this "comfort" nursing around 9 pm so its been awhile since he ate ... should i pump around 8:30 to empty them so he can do this or will this just make it worse?

you could still try it...or just let the let down happen in a towel and then relatch him. he may just want a little top off before he sleeps for a while!

thanks :) i will try that ... a towel would be better than my jammies or shirt which is where all the milk ends up!
