OK I am freaking out right now. A friend came over and as she was walking through my kitchen she said, "Is that a snake?" Turns out there was a SNAKE!!!! I was so scared!! I ran across the street and got a male neighbor to come help (remember I am 25 weeks pregnant). Anyway, his wife told me, "Dont touch your stomach, you will mark your baby." She freaked me out!!! Does anyone know what she meant by that?
Yes, he got the snake. It wasn't huge, Fairly skinny and not full grown. I just hope there isnt a MAMA lingering around. Any tips for preventing snakes from coming in?

I would totally spaz out! As for what the neighbors wife said, it sounds like some sort of old wives tale. I wouldnt give it any thought.

How did it get in? Keep that way closed. I have no idea about her comment, ask her.

It was a small gray snake with dark gray diamond shapes on the back.

I think it may have come in through the back sliding glass door but really not sure. I didn't see anywhere else it could've come in.

I bet someone on here could tell you what kind it is.

I hate finding snakes in the house! At least it wasn't stuck under your toilet seat! The only real advice I have for keeping snakes out of your house, aside from sealing every possible entrance, is to keep the area around your house fairly clear of anything a snake could hide in, such as firewood. Also, keeping the foliage around your house cut short will also keep snakes from hiding close to the house and sneaking in.

As for marking your baby, it is an old wives tale, that if you look at a snake, rubbing your belly will mark your baby. Or seeing anything scary, or whatever.

"Dont touch your stomach, you will mark your baby." I'm curious by what she meant. You should ask her.

I am curious too. I think I will have to go over there and ask her when she gets off work today. Yesterday was actually the first time I met her. I've met her son and husband but she always works and never really met her, but I will make it a PRIORITY to go ask her today.

I googled "old wives tales" and couldnt find anything. I need to find an older person and ask them.

OK just called a grandmother that I know...She says it is an "old wives tale." She says that being scared during pregnancy can give your baby birthmarks. She says that with snakes if you see a snake and get scared and touch your stomach that the baby will develop a "snake-like" birth mark on its body. SOOOO, if this reigns true, I guess she is marked, bc I was scared out of my patooty!!!

Believe me, I didnt want to sleep here last night. I kept thinking that another one (maybe the mother) was gonna come looking for her baby.

Get an inside animal. Dog or cat, either would work. When I lived in the country our cats were always killing snakes.

I found a dead snake (although I thought it was just the skin) in my basement last week. I had a pest control guy come to the house and he inspected the outside to make sure there were no obvious entry points and looked around the basement to see where he would have gotten in. He also set several glue traps just in case there are others. He thinks it got in through a window well as it was just a tiny baby and could fit through that way. I was really wigged out too but I'm hoping there are no others.
