Thanks!

She wants to wear Tinkerbell earrings on her 8th birthday which is in 8.5 weeks, so this is an early birthday gift.

She has been toying with the idea for a long time, I've shown her youtube videos of kids getting their ears professionally pierced and she was borderline for a *long* time... until she saw Tinkerbell earrings, and she was POSITIVE she was ready. We have been talking about it for over a month, I wanted to be sure that she was ready. She definitely is!

Wow, where did you go? I have never seen a child get their ears pierced without the earring gun, she doesn't look like she even flinched!

She looks happy. Did they put something on her ears so it wouldn't hurt? She doesn't seem to be in pain at all.

Why wasn't the lady doing it wearing gloves? Doesn't seem very sanitary.

Aww, what a doll! She looks so happy :) Dd brings it up every once in awhile, but she's only 5 so I'm hesitant yet.

I took her to a friend who is a professional piercer and owner of a salon in my town.

She told me that she has a hard time feeling kids' ear lobes with gloves on and left the choice up to me if I wanted her to wear them or not. I know her and trust her and said she could leave them off. She did wash her hands first and then slather instant hand sanitizer on them.

No, they didn't put anything on her ears - piercings with needles by professionals are much less painful then piercings with guns. She said the first ear she felt a bit, but the second ear hurt a bit. Neither was painful, she said the second one felt like a pinch.

I had no idea needles were better than guns. I will keep that in mind in case any of my kids ever want to pierce their ears.

Congrats! She looks so happy- she is soo brave :)

Oo yes girlsmama google it, Guns are terrible for piercing! If dd wants her ears pierced it will be with a needle

There is tons of information on the web about them. Here is one link with the reasons why you shouldn't allow the use of a piercing gun http://www.homiegfunk.com/gunssuck.htm

Wow! What a trooper. Smiled through it all. She is gorgous!

They didn't use a piercing gun?? They just used a needle?? I didn't know that they did that.

You'd rather have it done with a brand new sterile needle than with a gun. FYI, there is no way to properly sanitize the guns. I'm a huge advocate of using needles for piercings.

Gypsy, cute kid.

OMG Lisa, she is SO grown and so beautiful!! Congrats to her on her new sparklies!!

I'm so glad you went with a real piercer, and not the damn gun, not that I thought for a second you'd use the gun.

She looks amazing!!

She looks beautiful and so happy. Way to go princess!

My dds had their ears pierced at the pedi's office and she used a little disposable thing to peirce the ear and it also put the ear ring in. It was like a gun but not the kind of gun they use at waltmart or other places. They did not even cry. The cried more when they were putting the backing of the ear ring on.

Gypsy, did it hurt her at all? My little one is only two, so I'll probably wait till she can tell me if she wants pierced ears, but I don't remember the gun hurting my ears at all, but if the needle is a more sanitary way to go, than I don't know.

I wondered about the lack of gloves also, but for the piercer's protection, not your daughter's (not to imply that your dd would put her at risk, but I'm sure other customers have the potential).

She is beautiful.

She is adorable!! I will have to look for a place that pierces w/needles instead of guns when DD wants to get her ears pierced.

Just quoting you since I saw the issue come up again ;)

I need to look into this for DD. The places that pierce here are 18+ only

Thanks, Shebox. I saw it; I just can't ever get the multi-quote function to work to get both NickNak and Gypsy's posts.

To be clear, it just surprised me that the piercer would herself at risk by not wearing gloves (assuming that that is routine practice for her). I have more difficulty placing IVs with gloves on, so I understand her rationale, but I wear them anyway. I have no idea what is stadard protocol for piercers. Perhaps there is less interaction with blood in the earlobe area.

Aww, she looks so cute! I can vouch for piercing with a needle not hurting much at all. None of my needle piercings (ear, nose, belly button) really hurt. The gun isn't terribly painful for me either but it does hurt more and the pain lasts beyond just the time that they actually do the piercing- it continues to burn for a bit. That isn't the case with a needle.

Most of the kids' she pierces she uses a gun for, because that's what the parents want, and she absolutely uses gloves.

I'll call her later, but I was under the impression that she always wears gloves, and it was just because she is a friend who I know & trust & she knows me and trust me that she gave me the option of no gloves. She did say she had only pierced 2 other kids' ears with a piercing needle, one was her own daughter, so if she only doesn't wear gloves when piercing kids' ears, then that would be 3 times over the last decade.

I'll call her later to clarify though.

Oh, and I didn't have to sign anything either. I was a bit surprised by that, I said "don't I have to sign a liability waiver or something?" and she said "I know you would never sue me!", so I think it might have a lot to do with me being her friend, KWIM?

DD is sitting here with me looking at the pictures. She is curious what DD did feel.
She then said she would do it when she is 6, LOL! When she is 6 she will say 7 and so on. It's fine, it is entirely up to her.
