She fell on the monkey bars and hit her mouth. She has a small cut on her bottom lip and her top four front teeth took an impact. Her gums are swollen and purple, poor girlie! I can see one tooth is chipped and they are all a bit loose.
We are heading to the dentist at 2 when they re open from lunch break, she is SO scared- wah!

I had a really bad monkey bar accident when I was in pre-school. I fell on my face and broke one of my molars in half.

Oh that poor little girl. I know exactly how she feels.
When I was in like 1st grade i was on the teeter totters and I fell and hit my top gums on the handle bar and I got a big cut across my gums and i knocked 3 teeth loose. Thankfully i didn't lose any of those teeth but I still have a scar on my gums from it.

Xrays looked just fine. Her front 4 top teeth have moved a bit but the roots are fine. The dentist said her teeth could turn grey or brown :( We just have to watch her gum for infection. He was a VERY nice dentist and put DD's fears quickly to rest.

I sure hope they don't change colors. It's hard for a kid when that happens.
Poor thing.

Poor girl! My dd fell face first on the playground last year at about this time. She also fell on her teeth (scraped up her face and chest really badly too). They ended up staying white. Hopefully your dd's will too. (((hugs))) for her.

Hope she's feeling a bit better tonight!
Monkey bars are the debil!! DS fell off the ones on our playground upside down his second day of kindergarten and bit all the way through his tongue from the outside edge to the middle ~ they called me to the office and I was such a basket case, they had to call my DH (who was principal at the jr. high at the time) to come get both of us, so I know how traumatic it is for mommy, too!
Hugs for both of you ~

Thanks everyone, we appreciate your well wishes. She is sleeping comfortably, gramma said she started whimpering in pain this evening but Motrin took care of it. She said her mouth and chin started bruising up pretty good :( Probably going to let her sleep in this am and hang with mama in the office tomorrow.

I was playing Red Rover when I was about ten, hit another girl's head with my mouth, and killed the root in my front right tooth, it turned gray, the dentist tried to bleach it over and over but it stayed gray, eventually I ended up with a crown. It was an adult tooth. I hope her teeth stay white. Poor girl, that must have been painful!

She is doing OK. Her stomach is bigger than her mouth, she is having a hard time eating. I have her here with me today. She looks so beat up. I need to get batteries in my camera and I will post a picture. I am still being ridiculously vain and worried about her smile :(
Her teacher called last night and gave a different account of what happened. She said the teacher on duty at recess saw it (yeh, riggghhhht) and that Mary was climbing too high on the monkey bars like she always does and that her shoes caused her to slip and fall. Perhaps I should get different shoes.
I am pretty chapped about that. Mary and her friend Hannah said she was sitting atop the monkey bars and she fell backwards "flipped" off and hit the bar on her way down. I am chapped about the shoe thing bc she is required to wear black shoes. i ahve sent her in modest sneakers that are mostly black and they were rejected. The best I could find are sneaker type mary janes from Payless Shoes (what she was wearing) so what the heck am I supposed to do? There was a suggestion that she not climb the monkey bars anymore. So flippin' stupid, it was an accident and accidents happen. I have a hard time buying the teacher on duty saw it... Mary and Hannah have nothing to lie about!

I'm sorry she was hurt and I hope her teeth don't turn color. Glad though that her adult teeth are okay!
Sorry the teacher is acting sort of shitty and trying to shift blame. If her shoes weren't safe for the monkey bars or playground in general then they should have said something way earlier or allowed her to wear the tennis shoes.

Aww, poor girl!
How did it go?
ETA: Ignore me. I just read the update. I somehow didn't see the third page. I hope she heals quickly.

I think I would believe the girls over the teacher who is just giving a hearsay account of what happened. You know, that sucks that they're taking this terrible opportunity to try and make you feel like it's somehow your fault for not buying the right shoes. They could have just simply said they're sorry, instead of following it up with the blame game.
I'm sorry that she was so ick like that. :(
I'm glad she's doing ok. I hope she heals really fast. (((Another Hug)))) for you both. :)

As for what to do... Ask them flat out where you should go to buy (snark) appropriate shoes?

Tifferni, you hit right at the heart of the matter as far as I am concerned. I saw no point in talking blame.

xobehs, I tried looking for all black tennis shoes and it was impossible. Can't they just let the kids change shoes for the playground.
In extreme measure:
I'd spin it and tell them that their dress code isn't allowing the children to get enough exercise and that they are not allowing them to be as healthy as possible. I'd then ask if they know when the next school board meeting is because you think that it is unfair to not allow the children to play like they should because of this shoe rule.

I honestly think if a school has a specific dress code like this or others, then they really should offer information on where to purchase these things and maybe even offer some sort of assistance for those who cannot afford it. This helps ensure that all students have the appropriate supplies.

I agree.
It is much easier to find all black little boy shoes than girls. Not to sound crazy, but that really is unfair to the little girls.
