so they say that oatmeal helps your milk supply. well i have plenty of milk and never did eat the stuff for that reason. since i had Stone, my 3 month old son, i have not eaten oatmeal. Well yesterday i decided to have a bowl for dinner. I woke up this morning and my boobs were like rocks, completely engorged. My milk has evened out and my boobs have been really soft. I was amazed at how well it worked. Stone fed normally last night, 4 times total. I had to use the pump this morning to relieve the discomfort. I pumped 6 oz! so if anyone needs to work on there milk supply, try oatmeal! lol

How much should you eat daily? I eat the self serving packets once a day, but haven't noticed a change should I eat more?

im eating 1 cup of the quaker oat brown oats. i put just a tad of brown sugar. I dont think the single serves contain very much. i would try the kind im using and eat 1 cup of them a day to start. let me know how it works.

you think the instant vs. regular makes a difference?

Supposedly no but I got better results with the regular and I like that kind better anyway. FYI even oatmeal cookies and bars can help.

portion wise yes, and if your eating the flavored kind, it contains a ton of sugar. but overall probably not a huge difference. But the whole grain brown oats are a little more nutritious than the bleached oats....

I always had an increased supply the day after I over-ate oatmeal cookies.

We've been buying steel cut oats for a few months now. Quaker just started making them (in a navy cannister). They take longer to cook, but we've instead been putting them in the crock pot to cook overnight. Another option is to boil your oats the night before until liquid is absorbed and allow to soak (turn off heat) overnight. Heat in the morning.

The steel cuts are healthier (more fiber, takes longer to digest) and tastier (nutty), and their texture (chewier) is totally different than traditional rolled oats. I wasn't real crazy about oatmeal for breakfast before, but with a little brown sugar in the steel cut ones, they're a favorite of mine!

I'll have to try those. I've been waiting for someone to bring them into the regular markets.

I eat the oatmeal in a packet every day at work. I buy the Quaker brand...it's Weight Control. I am not a dieter or following a diet by the way:)

The Weight Control oatmeal packet has less sugar, more fiber, more protein, and is considered 2 servings of whole grain versus the "regular" oatmeal packets.

I'd prefer regular oatmeal but I do not make time for that before work, it's too busy getting myself and kids ready for the day...then getting to work.

Anything with oatmeal will help your supply. Eat it more than once a day. Make cookies, bars, use it as cereal...anything. I ate an oatmeal bar that I made myself- for breakfast, instead of the oatmeal packet, and I just pumped out 8 ounces of delicious mama's milk:)

I love oatmeal to begin with, but this steel cut thing sounds awesome. I will have to try some.

With all these positive testimonials I'm going to give this oatmeal thing a try. I love oatmeal cookies, but I have never actually had just plain oatmeal.
