For anyone who has experience with asthma...

My ds1 is 5 years old. He has never been diagnosed with asthma but he does have hayfever. Last night we were at the pool for several hours. After a while he started coughing really bad and couldn't stop.

This isn't the first time this has happened. Sometimes if I don't catch it he will cough and eventually throw up. Everytime we go to this particular pool this happens. I am pretty sure its because when we go there we are there all day or for along time. He is in swimming lessons but those are only a half an hour and he has never had a problem.

But these coughing fits happen every once in a while. Maybe a couple times a year. Not a lot but I am still concerned. The other times it happens when he has a little cold or his hayfever is acting up and he is running around a lot.

Usually when I notice these symptoms I have him sit down and I give him a sucker or cough drop and that usually helps. I usually give him some cough syrup as well. A drink of water never helps. Only sucking on something.

So what do you think? Asthma or Allergies?

I decided to take him to his pedi but our appointment isn't for 2 weeks but that gives me time to get some opinions and do some research so I know what to ask and if I should insist on some sort of test.

Opinions would be very much appreciated!!! Thanks.

Well, asthma and allergies go hand and hand alot of the time. Neither of my DC have asthma yet. although both could very well end up with it. DS does weeze when he is sick and has been perscribed asthma meds for that. His asthma-like symtoms are triggered by a cold. DH has had sickness induced astthma in the past also. It is not a concern for him at all unless he is sick, and does not even happen with each sickness.

We are just now getting into the asthma end of things, so I don't really have any advice for you.

The best thing to do is talk to the pedi about it our have him seen by an allergist.
