I am a soon to be first time mom -- I am currently at 34 weeks. After doing some reading on the internet today, I think that I may have lost my mucous plug today. Is this something that I should be concerned about withonly being 34 weeks? Obviously, it is a Sunday, so my Dr. is not in -- should I contact anyone or wait until tomorrow morning and contact my Dr's office. Or is there not any reason to contact my Dr. I don't go back to the Dr. for another 2 weeks --

Any advise and help would be appreciated!!

THANK YOU!

Depends. You feeling any cramps? How many children are you carrying? (I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to get some info.) Are you at risk for premature labor?

As for what I know, it depends on the answers to the questions I just ask. If you are carrying multiples and are at risk for premature labor, than I would definitely be calling the Urgent care. If you are feeling cramps and are not carrying multiples or at risk for premature labor, Urgent care. If you don't know the answers to the questions above, that's alright.

I didn't know the answer to two of the three questions until my first run to the Urgent Care.

I am not carrying multiples (just one in there) -- I haven't had any cramping at all. Last night I felt like I was starting to get the flu, but I feel fine today (it might have been something that I ate). I don't believe that I am at risk for preterm labor -- I was never told anything about being at risk....

I would go to the urgent care to check to see if your plug has been lost. It is something to worry about IMO.

Though I've heard of times where it has happened and they don't do anything but stick you on bed rest. Sometimes they will stick an artificial plug in, if you are at risk (don't remember what for though. IDT premature labor).

I've watched and read up on 'birth' long before I got pregnant. About 2+ years and stopped around the age of 18. Reason being lost interest, besides my family was beginning to frown upon it.

No, you do not need to go to urgent care unless the plug was blood-tinged or you are bleeding, or you are cramping.

One can loose her mucous plug weeks prior to delivering.

Call your doc in the a.m. if you continue to be concerned.

Fully agree with madelsmama. You can lose your plug early and it can form back again. There's no reason to be alarmed at all. Of course, if you're having contractions, then I'd be concerned with or without the mucous plug!

I lost my mucas plug at 36 weeks. Didn't delivery until 3 days AFTER my due date. No problems.

I would call the Drs just in case. You can lose your mucous plug early but they may want to monitor you to make sure you are not in labor. 34 weeks is still too early to deliver a healthy baby
Keep us posted

I really don't think it's cause for concern unless you are contracting. I would call into the doctors office and see what they say, but FWIW, I lost my mucous plug at 34 weeks and didn't deliever until 39 weeks. It just depends on you and your body and baby. I hope all is well.

As PP's have said I would not be concerned unless you are having contractions or bleeding. I lost my mucus plug several weeks before I delivered.

This is what I did. I lost it a week before I delivered and it was my first baby so I jsut wanted to make sure everything was OK.

I went to the Dr on monday -- everything is fine- my cervix is still closed. however, i do have the start of a yeast infection. So i have medication to take for that -- but everything else is fine -- what a relief!!

You can loose your mucous plug either weeks, days or hours prior to the onset of labour, you just never know when ;) It does mean that the cervix is starting to soften. You may also loose it as a whole or in parts, it is blood tinged and resembles an egg white.

mine looked like a giant brown booger. I lost it nearly 3 weeks before ds was born.
