I am currently exclusivley nursing my 9 month old and taking the mini pill. I am planning on weaning at a year. I have about 100 5oz bags of EBM in the freezer. I am planning on cutting down to 1 nursing session and 2 pumping session in about 6 weeks and dip into the freezer stash and start the Nuvaring.
My OB told me it was safe if I was only nursing once and pumping twice but I thought I would post and see what you guys think.
Is it safe to have the Nuvaring even if you are minimally nursing?

The risk with any hormonal birth control is that the estrogen will reduce your milk supply.

Are you concerned about the transferrence of hormones via milk, or the potential milk supply issue?

Me + hormonal birth control= low milk supply issues.

I am more concerned with the transference to the milk. I am already having low supply issues and I am hoping that I have a big enough freezer stock to help me get to the 1 year mark. Formula has never touched my babies lips (I gave her some in cereal and she threw it up) and I really want to make it to the year mark.
If there is an issue I can always have my hubby leave me alone untill I can safely take the hormonal BC :)

Have you given any thought to an IUD like the Mirena?

I had mine inserted when DD 2 months old and I didn't have any milk supply issues. If I remember correctly, there are some hormones in Mirena...I just don't remember exactly what:)

I tried to have the Mirena inserted twice. My cervix is very closed and stiff. They gave me a pill to help dialate it to no avail. They did not want to use dialaters due to the risk of perforating the uterus. It is mostly in part to me never having a vaginal birth and the BFing. They said it may be able to be inserted after AF starts but she has not come as of yet. My options are limited and I really don't want another pregnancy for a while if not ever.
