Darn it... thrush

This is the third baby... never had thrush before and now I think we do. My DS has shite spots that almost look like dry skin spots on his bottom lip and his tongue is covered with white spots.

I was just reading online that we have to stop nursing and I need to pump?? I never heard that before and I really don't want to do that- AT ALL. Is there a way to get rid of it while we continue to nurse? Would taking acidopholous help?

You do NOT have to stop nursing or pump while treating thrush. I'm not a thrush expert. You and baby will both need to be treating.

In my opinion, you should not use nystatin. I've heard it sometimes is ineffective against thrush.

Dr. Jay Gordon has a web site regarding thrush. You can use a mix of Grapefruit Seed Extract and water to threat both yourself and baby. The link is here: http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.asp. (I think the link is in there okay).

You'll need to wash anything that touches the baby's mouth and your nipples all in hot hot water.

I agree that GSE is the superior treatment for thrush. Make sure and treat mom and baby together to avoid passing it back and forth and be diligent about not using bras or burp cloths and the like more than once without washing.
