My DS is trying to cut his first tooth at 1, its on the top and it has a huge bulge for about 1 1/2 wks now but it hasn't broken skin...he isnt' sleeping well so we aren't either.

I'm trying hylands teething pills, oragel and motrin/tylenol as needed...its seems worse at night, in the day he seems okay he wants his paci more but seems okay, at night he just can't get comfortable.

Any ideas?

My DD has been doing the same thing. She's getting in her 5th and 6th tooth and is just fine during the day but at night she has a hard time. The teething tablets no longer work for her. Tylenol takes the edge off the pain I think but still isn't getting us enough sleep at night.

Wish I had some advice.

My kids had teething pain that went on and on and on. Especially bad at night; in fact, we are going through another bout now. I save ibuprofen for night time, when I can, and give a dose right before bed.

I have seen that at the point where you just are going nuts from lack of sleep, suddenly the tooth will cut and the kid will be fine. I am ready for this today!!!!

Motrin works best for us too. Sometimes propping DD up helps some too. I think there's more pressure/pain lying flat...like earaches are worse when you lie down.

Oh good thought!! He sleeps booty up, face to the side but down, I should turn him, maybe its the pressure of being on his face!

What I used to do with my older boys was put baby Oragel on the gums and then press hard on the teething site to help break it through the skin. If the tooth was "Right There under the skin" I would use the back of a teaspoon and rub that area with some pressure. After the oragel or Ambesol of course.
This would help get the tooth closer to the surface faster without hurting them. It helped to shorten the teething time too .... depending on how close the tooth was to the surface.

Good Luck Ladies .... I'm just starting to have to deal with this again too :o
