Dear Chanley:
There are other ways - don't panic!
Get up earlier and pump after baby's first feeding in the early am -
then use that for the first feeding. Pump at work before you go home
then feed baby when you arrive. Also you can nurse baby through the
night to keep up total milk volume. The amount you make daily is the
important factor. If your supply reduces during the day - you can make
up for it at night. You can also try doing the 'Power Hour' once daily
for a week to boost your milk supply. Do this:
Spend one hour daily with your double-pumping, professional-grade pump.
(I say this because the effectiveness of your pump is pretty important).
Pump 12 minutes -- Rest 12 minutes -- Pump 12 minutes -- Rest 12 minutes
-- Pump 12 minutes. This is 60 minutes - and the 3 times you pump during
this time usually nets you the same total you'd get when you pump once.
So - if you pump and get 3 oz - you may find that pumping during the
'Power Hour' - you get 2-3 oz each of those 3 times (total 6-9 oz)! (clear?)
And...the more milk you remove, the more you will make. This can help you
to catch up. As baby gets older, he/she doesn't need that much more daily.
By 6 months when they begin an interest in other foods, their total intake is
still about 32 oz daily. (A newborn takes 20 - 30 oz daily)
