Okay, so hear is the story. My brother just had a baby, his wife is an overly concerned mother of a baby that is a week and a half old. She has called the dr that I know of 4 times. A couple nights ago, there dd got a bath that I think was too cold, she was shivering through it as well as screaming. After the bath she went right upstairs and nursed her.
After she got done, dd spewed out her dinner, all of it. my sil got really upset and bawled. They took her temp(which was low) So she called the pedi. They said that the low temp was probably from her bath, wrap her up and let her get warm, then take her temp in a half hour. The temp was fine. I am not sure what they said about the spitting up but didn't seem worried about it to have her come in. The next day she decided to take her to the pedi anyway.
So they weighed her and she is gaining 2 1/4ounces a day. They said that she was probably eating too much. She is not getting "chubby" by any means, if you can really go by that(which i don't think you can for a baby) So they don't want to feed her as often.
She doesn't spit up like that a lot, that was her first time, and I think that the pedi was just responding to my sil's being so worried. So what I need is info i can print out or email my brother so that he can deal with the problem.
Please help!!! I need stuff about the weight gain, if it is normal or not and I need stuff about if she is overeating or if the spitting up caused by something else.
Sorry so Long, just trying to give as much info as possible.

Don't have any info for you to print out, but I will say that my ds is 11 weeks old, and spits up just about every time he eats. The pedi has seen this first hand and is not at all concerned about it. My older ds did the same thing. We called him the "itty bitty spitty man". My dd almost never spit. I think some babies just spit up more than others. I am guessing that your sil is a first time mama with all the first time worries. I would tell her to follow her instincts about feeding her baby. As long as baby is gaining well I wouldn't worry. I would only worry if baby didn't want to eat and wasn't gaining well. I can't even imagine how one would go about feeding a hungry baby less. My ds was born at 6lbs 7oz in the 10th percentile and now at 11 weeks he is 14.5 lbs in about the 85 percentile. He has gained a lot quickly and the pedi says that he is perfect. I think sil should not worry so much. I don't think a bf baby can overeat.

It's really hard to overfeed a breastfed baby straight from the breast.
at 1.5 weeks old it's very difficult to tell what growth curve baby should be on.
chart baby's growth on the chart

and then watch and see what happens. baby should be on a curve and stay sort of on that curve. big jumps are usually a problem when baby is not gaining enough weight. I would not be very concerned about baby gaining too much at such an early age.

Agreed, it is really hard to overfeed a breastfed baby. They take in what they need. I would not try to restrict a baby's feedings because they were putting on too much weight. I know with both my kids, they gain a lot of weight the first 6 months, and slow way down the second 6 months. It is just their pattern of growth.

I don't have any direct info but I can tell you that my DD gained 3 pounds in 3 week her first month. It is very normal for babies to gain alot of weight in thier first month. It is very hard to over feed a breast fed baby
