I know that certain foods effect your baby in the same way that it effects mom, but how long does it stay in mom's milk supply?

How old is your baby? Do you think that certain foods are a problem? Is there a food that you are eating or drinking that is bad for you?

He is just now 3 months old. I try to eat very healthy, but I love Mexican food..its a weakness and I ate only a small amount of salsa around 2pm..thinking it wouldn't bother him if I only ate a little. He has had a touch of reflux usually when he spits up its about 1-2 oz but not explosive. I fed him at about 5pm and he was fine after, but when i nursed him again around 7pm after he finished, he almost immediately explosively spit up and in total spit about 3-3.5 oz....he has never spit that much...did I do this to him:(

What do breastfed babies do in Mexico? Their mom eats spicy food. When you were pregnant, did you eat Mexican food? Maybe he doesn't do well with tomatoes. Watch his behavior when you eat tomatoes.

Good point....I did eat Mexican food while I was pregnant, but after about 5 or 6 months I had to stop eating it because my heartburn got so bad. But when I eat pizza it doesn't seem to bother him. Does reflux slowly worsen?

Interesting that tomatoes in pizza don't cause him grief. I know that refux seems to be a big deal and many babies have that label. I do CranioSacral therapy with babies and that often decreases or eliminates the symptoms that have been called "reflux". The sauce in pizza has many of the same ingredients as salsa - onions, garlic. Hmmm!

What is CranioSacral therapy? Is it something I could try? Should I be concerned with his spitting worsening?

On my website www.mybreastfeeding.com, I have a whole section explaining about CST or CranioSacral therapy. Has the spitting up continued to get worse? Maybe he nursed more and had pressure on his tummy so spit up a bigger amount. How does he act?
Does he act unhappy?
Where do you live? You could call me & we could better explore what is happening if you wish. I am in the SF bay area.

He stopped spitting up and took about a 30min nap and has woke up ready to eat again. He was acting unhappy (crying) before he went to sleep. But he is acting like he wants to eat and when he sucks a little while he cries.

It seems like this would be a good time to see a lactation consultant in your area. La Leche League is a great place to learn more about baby behavior. Go to www.llli.org to find your local La Leche League group. There is even help on line if you can't attend a meeting.
best wishes for more months of breastfeeding with your baby,
Sylvia
