We rarely consume any kind of sugar (besides fruit) in our house and I'm not to fond of the idea of DD having a piece of sugary cake all to herself for her 1year birthday. So I'm wondering if any of you have some great "no sugar" cake recipes? Or a different idea for birthday fun :)

Sorry dear, no sugar free recipes here. Here's my two cents worth...she's only going to turn 1 once. Give her some cake:)

You know, FWIW, our DD did not "love" her birthday cupcake we gave her. She played with the frosting a bit and did not DIVE into her cake. lol. Sure, she had some frosting on her clothes, hair, hands, and face but she did not consume very much of the frosting.

I say give her a piece of cake. What can it hurt?

I don't know the first birthday isn't a huge deal to me...She's not going to remember it and I'd rather do the sugary cake when it actually means something to her or she can remember it. First b-days seem to be more for the parents anyways. Plus I think its best to wait as long as possible to introduce such a sugary item...I may be weird but thats how I feel about it. I do appreciate your advice though shaunsmom...

I guess I'm thinking of any kind of cake that is sweetened with fruits instead of sugar. Can babies have stevia? I know its a natural sweetner but I don't know too much about it.

Yes, babies can have Stevia. If you want to read more on it check out this sight.

I've been using it for 5 years now and my family love it. It takes abit to get use to cooking with it as baked Items don't brown like they do with sugars.

Interesting, I didn't know there was such a difference in the brands that sell stevia. I'm gonna read into it some more and let you know if I need anyone of those recipes. Thanks!

What about strawberry short cake? She can have apple crisp too.
