My sister's specialized US and possible amnio for Down Syndrome are today

She goes in this morning for her specialized ultrasound and then she has a genetics consult. It will be up to her from there if she wants to have the amnio done. She would prefer not to but her boyfriend really wants her to.

In case you missed the back story, they are doing this because her NT scan and bloodwork both indicated a high risk for Downs Syndrome.

So, if you could please keep her and baby in your thoughts and prayers, I'd appreciate it.

I just got home and wanted to let you guys know what she found out today...

They looked at the baby's organs and features in the ultrasound and they all appear to be healthy and normal. The doctor said that she can't find anything that would definitely indicate that the baby has Downs Syndrome, but that the ultrasound is not a diagnostic. The only way to find out for sure would be the amnio.

My sister decided to opt out of the amnio. The baby is healthy, so if the baby DOES have Downs, the baby will most likely be a healthy baby with Downs. So, she's going to wait it out and she'll be fine either way.

The scariest part of having a child with Downs is the risk of heart defects and this baby's heart looks perfectly healthy which is awesome news!

This will be her 3rd girl, and Deven will remain the only boy in our family still, out of my 3 sisters, 8 nieces and my own 2 kids.

What a wonderful sister you have... I read, if this child has downs she will welcome her with open arms, she's just happy that she doesn't have heart problems. What a wonderful person she is. I have had the great honor to know 2 ppl that have downs, and they are by far one of the MOST caring and happiest ppl i have ever met.

Tiffers, you have an AWESOME family, that's why i gravitated to you so much. Your parents did a great job! Our grandbabies are going to be the best ;)
