This is what DH saw sitting in our yard after he heard someone lose control. She murdered our mailbox. That is wedged under her truck. The good thing is she stopped about a 1/2 from our fence and 3 1/2 feet away from our tree.

I'm sorry about your mail box. I bet it scared the shit out of her.

It did. She wasn't from around here and said, "I'll chalk it up to the first snow" What we didn't know was she meant her first snow...ever. She also said, "I saw the tree and I thought Oh sweet Jesus! Help me!" She was so cute, but pretty scared.
We weren't ready for this at all. I still have the kids yard toys out, the lawn furniture, and blackberry bushes that needed to be cut back. We knew we could get some snow, but "some" around here isn't 4 inches over night. It is like 1 or 2 inches...maybe...

Glad she didn't do more damage or hurt herself or someone else.
The first major snowfall of the year is always scary, people seem to forget how to drive in it. Stay warm!

LM, I was sooo glad to see that one one else was involved. DH said that he didn't know what to expect when he headed out, but soon saw it was very minor.

We both have so many retired and active military members in our family that I fly it for them and also because of pride for our country. DH has been teaching DS1 about the flag and some of our history. It is something we both feel strongly about.
ETA: She just came back to get her truck pulled out and asked if we wanted the same kind of mailbox or an upgrade. I told her the same one would be fine and we didn't need to benefit from her accident. She asked again if we were sure we didn't want an upgrade. I think that she felt thankful we didn't call the police or our insurance. We could have been real asses about it.

That's a lot of snow for the first part of November! Glad the only casualty was your mailbox ~ someone hit our parked car during a snowstorm and mowed down our neighbor's mailbox when we lived in Lexington.
Love to see the flag flying and your Welcome banner is adorable!

dh and I are from pa, he says the funneist snow related car thing is when he went to school down south. apparently EVERYTHING shuts down and people seriously panic and there are dozens of car accidents over a half an inch of snow. where he went to school there is also no snowplow equipment or anything, everyone just stayed home till it melted.

Wow, Glad everybody is okay. I bet she was shaken up.
Babyblue, DH is from Pa and we live in the south now. It is a good thing that they shut down schools and businesses here when it snows half an inch, cause people lose their minds.

Wow I am glad no one was hurt. Some one hit our mailbox when we were at the hospital haveing dd3 and when DH went home he saw the damage and there was a brand new mailbox and a note at our front door. I thought it was very nice of this person and we thanked her in person.
When it snowed here a few yrs ago we had to drive 35 miles to our church so we could attend mid-night mass. I had the entire choir with me and dd2 was the Virgen Mary for the play so we *had* to go. My dad drove and it took us over an hour and a half to get there. Then the heater in our church was out so the choir was shivering. DN and I were the guitar players so we could not wear our gloves or our jackets because it was too diffucult to play with those things on. South Texans are just not used to anything below 40 degrees...lol.

Whew, I'm glad she was ok and that only our mailbox was damaged. Those are easily replaced.
Last year was the first year I've ever slid off the paved roads. It had snowed, warmed up enough to melt some, froze and snowed more, melted some, froze and snowed more...there must have been an inch of ice on the paved roads. I'm glad I live far from paved roads.
3girls, I remember when it snowed one year in Lake Jackson (south of Houston) in the 80's. There was chaos and confusion and the roads were a mess!

I'm glad she's okay and that your property other than your mailbox is okay! I'll stay in the South during the winter, though.

Ahh look at the ice on the tree. So not looking forward to this time of year.
Glad she wasn't hurt.
