I was wondering... I love the story Pride and Prejudice, have watched the movies and am currently reading the book. Below is a link to a pattern for the dresses that were worn in that time period.
However, I don't want to look outdated. Is there a way I could maybe modernize one of them, with a bold pattern print, maybe? I don't know.
I prefer the short sleeved one.

I also like them because if I happen to get pregnant, I could still wear them because they're an empire waist.

I think if you make it knee length (easy to adjust length) It would look great. I think it would look lovely in burgundy velvet for a Christmas dress maybe with a cream lace overlay on the top. I would also leave the bow off.
I am having a hard lime picturing the dress with a bold pattern.

I agree with Vulturemom, I was thinking the hemline should be just a hair above the knee and instead of the bow some kind of pretty trim along the empire line.

look up pattern #2965. It is a much easier pattern than a costume pattern.

I have this pattern but haven't made it yet.
For me, this dress is about simplicity and lightness. I'm not sure a bold print would carry well, but perhaps thats because in my mind, that style just calls for soft and delicate.
Whatever you decide, please show us the end result :)

while aren't exactly the same, they are similar, and a little easier.
:) Or practice sewing a lot before you try that dress. Satin is pretty, but a pain to sew.

Here is a link to another pattern from the Regency period. Check out the forums/etc. I really like her patterns. She gives many variations and they are more period correct in my opinion.
