My 8 year old (3rd Grade) ds says he loves science. Any suggestions for science related gifts?

I get this catalog by Discovery. It has great stuff.

We're "growing" Painted Lady Butterflies from the caterpillar stage. Very cool.

I think it's this one:http://insectlore.stores.yahoo.net/butgarwitcer.html

I was a science-lover as a child, and still remember receiving my first microscope and ant farm!

I love this place. It also has them divided by age. I've seen several things I would like to play with as well.
(Carnivorous Creations Terrarium Kit looks totally cool)

We had fun with that, but we did it in the spring.

Toysrus has some cute little science kits, so does target. There are also some really neat science books full of experiments that kids can do on their own or with an adult. They're pretty cool.

I'll never forget how excited DD was when she tied a bone in a knot! :) The kiddos just loved that. hehe

My DD's REALLY into science too. :)

I'm looking at this (http://www.discoverthis.com/amsolveh.html). What are the chances that it's NOT made in China?

My parents got me a microscope when I was a kid and I used the heck out of it.

Lego has some pretty cool robot stuff. I also liked model rockets at that age 'till now.

Sea monkeys are so much fun! We are getting a frog habitat too, where you send a coupon for tadpoles and watch them transform:)

I'll have to look into that.

One of our tadpoles turned into a frog. The other stayed a tadpole for over a year and then finally died.

I don't know anything about either of these companies, but they both ship to Canada. The first link looks like a more user-friendly site.

How about a book of science experiments?

We got Deven a terrarium that has nothing but meat eating plants for Christmas. We got it from

They have a ton of really cool stuff.

Yeah, I got DD sea monkeys and jumping beans for Christmas last year. She just loved them. She cried a little when the moths finally came out and she had to let them free. Ours came with a little knowledge about where they come from and how to take care of them. Not to mention the cool feeling when they jump around in your hand. Pretty neat.

I may just get one of those butterfly kits. I know she would LOVE that. When's a good time of season to get them though because I'd hate to have to free them out in the cold. I don't know how that all works exactly.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I saw a crystal growing kit on one of those sites, I think I'll get that as he's been talking about crystals.

I'm hoping this isn't like those "magic rocks" though, the first one looks like it may be.

He doesn't really like to read, but if it's something that'll interest him, then he would read. Maybe get the book and then get some supplies for the experiements listed.

The company we dealt with will only mail the caterpillars certain times of the year.
