View Full Version : I know why my supply dipped. . .

I posted the other day because I was feeling very discouraged about a major dip in my supply, following a bad GI bug that I had over the weekend. I was still feeling nauseous a few days later, and haven't gotten my period yet (DS is almost 13 months), so I went out and bought a pregnancy test yesterday. It came back negative, and of course, I got my period this morning. I must admit, I'm a little disappointed not to be preggers again, though DH and I have been very, very careful so it was highly unlikely - even if I was fertile. But glad to know I'm now fertile again if we so choose to try for number 2. (It would be #4 for him. Needless to say, we have our hands full.) So thanks for all the great feedback and advice following my earlier post. My only question now is, will my supply come back to "normal" after I finish menstruating? I'm debating hanging up the pump soon and just nursing at night and in the morning, but am afraid doing so will cause an even further drop in supply. Anyone who's got experience or guidance on this front, I'd love to hear from you!

I don't have any experience in this but plan on pump weening when DS turns a year old. I'm almost sad to see that day quickly approching. DS is 8 1/2 months now.

Yes, your supply should bounce right back after your period. My LC told me to take a calcium/magn supplement once my period returns which is suppose to help with supply dips during menstruation.

I think you would be fine just nursing at night and in the morning if thats what works for you. Your supply should just adjust to only making what he demands.
