My daughter is showing a lot of interest in anything we do as far as food goes. She is 6 months old. She grabs at everything we eat and now what we drink! Would offering her a sippy cup be ok at this age, or no? I would not be interested in using that for a full feeding, I still want her to nurse, but for the exploration of drinking from a cup.

She is working her way on solids at this time, has only had 3 different foods. I am not trying to rush anything, I just think shes so curious and I don't want to stifle that.

I don't see anything wrong with offering a sippy with a little water or ebm in it. She probably will not drink much at first anyways. My dd has had a sippy at meal times since about that age. I just make sure to not put too much in it at a time.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking, but was just curious if I was way off base.

I gave my ds a sippy cup at around that age. I usually just filled the cup with water. Take advantage to her curiosity. :)

My daughter is 13 months and won't take a bottle or sippy cup. She will only drink liquids out of a straw! So that might work better than a sippie cup for your child as well.

That's when we start with a cup. I usually put a couple of ounces of water in it, just for practice. My kids didn't really get it for a while, so I didn't want to waste the breastmilk.

My experience has been the same as Stephanie's. Small amount of water only.

thank you for all the suggestions:)

I never thought about water so she doesn't waste the milk, that's a good idea. I didn't ask the ped about drinks, so I wasn't sure I could give her water either.

Just little bits. Like Steph said, it really takes time to get the hang of drinking from a cup; lots of spillage.
