I warned you it was pic heavy!
We were lucky enough to be accepted and get to attend the first ever overnight camp for children with severe food allergies. The camp was only 2 1/2 hours from us (how lucky is that!) here in KY.
If anyone is close to KY they offer a lot of weekend camps for children who typically would not be able to attend a "normal" camp due to medical reasons. Check out their website for more info at http://www.courageouskids.org/
This place was great, and I can not tell you how wonderful the staff was. They truely cared for our children. They washed down the whole camp before we came. Doorknobs, chairs backs, everything! We did bring our own foods for the DC and myself (since I am on a ED of DS allergens) but the staff prepared meals that were pretty allergy friendly for the adults, and I was even able to eat all of the meals they provided, although we still did not risk giving anything to the DC.
There was no food allowed anywhere except for the dining hall, and your own rooms. I can not tell you how wonderful it was toi be able to just let my children run and play without wondering and be a worry wort!! It was also so nice to be able to talk to other parents IRL, who truely understand the emotional journey of raisng chlidren with severe food allergies.
Medical staff was also on hand at all times.
There was bowling, a movie, indoor pool, a beauty shop, a wood shop, arts and crafts, discovery zone, hores riding, gym, you name it!
We also got to enjoy the company of fellow bfing.comer Shortcake and her family!
U missed em!
