I have read a lot on what to do if your baby is biting during a nursing session. Leave it to my ds to do something completely unexpected. He doesn't bite me during a nursing session. He bites me as he is latching on. ARG!!!

I don't know how to stop it because I have no idea when he is going to do it. I thought maybe if I tried nursing him before he started really wanting it he wouldn't be so eager(I think that is the problem) but no avail. He will ONLY nurse when he wants to.

Any suggestions? I have no idea what to do.

Could it be a teething issue? If you gave him something frozen to gnaw on for about twenty minutes prior to your session and perhaps gave him some teething tabs, you might be able to eliminate the behavior.

You could also try a nursing necklace before you offer the breast and see if that sidetracks the behavior.

Maybe teething. He has been getting so many teeth he is just miserable. I may try that! Thanks NN!

DS was a biter when he was teething. As NN said I offered him lots of things to chew on before the nursing session, and would remove him when he did bite with a firm "No biting Mommy. That hurts" He is a sensitive babe so I had to be careful not to be to harsh, or to yelp when he bit or it would end in a nursing strike.
