She will be 6 months on Dec 9th. I was thinking I'd be in no rush to get her on solids, thinking I might ebf her for longer than 6 months - but unless you can convince me otherwise, she'll be getting something solid in just a couple of weeks.
She watches intently as DS and I eat. She focuses on the food - it's really cute. I'm sure it's mainly curiosity - but she also seems to practice chewing when she's bored.
So lets talk first foods again.
I'm open to making them for her, so tell me what you think.

The first one for all three of mine other than cereal was applesauce. They LOVED it.

I make all of dd2s. I tried jarred food for convenience and she did not like it. Dd1 did not either. So far, she has tried rice, oatmeal, apples, bananas, acorn squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans, black beans, lentils, yogurt.
I try to just make two new food per week and freeze them in cubes. Since I started doing that, it hasn't felt overwhelming and we have a stockpile.

avacado, banana, butternut squash (butternut squash was a huge hit with DD1) sweet potatoes, carrots... For some reason neither cared much for applesauce.

Dax hates solid foods. He appeared to be interested. He'll watch us intently as we eat, and he'll play with a spoon and chew on it. He won't eat solid food. He's had maybe 4 small bites of mashed bananas since we started offering. After we offered bananas, we tried avocados. He seemed to hate those even more.
Jett was the polar opposite. We started rice cereal when he was 6 months old, and he loved it. He rarely refused a food. We quit the cereal and started homemade foods after he became a little constipated. Bananas were his favorite, and he still loves them. He was so not picky when he was a baby. Dax is completely different.

I forgot about letting her play with spoons. Closely supervised, of course.
I am looking forward to this!
Remind me how much I should try to give her at first. Just a couple of tablespoons, right?
I also have a mesh chewy thingy - you put something soft in it & the kid gums it through the mesh. That would work, too, wouldn't it?
Oh - I could put frozen banana chunks in there for her to teethe on!

Those mesh feeders are awesome!! I think we got ours at either Target or Wal-Mart...the brand is Munchkin.
You can also put frozen breast milk cubes in there for when you LO is teething. Our daughter loved that!!!
We put fresh fruits or fresh vegetables or meat in the mesh feeder for her. It sometimes was messy but so handy:)
One first food that DD still loves are bananas. She could eat a whole banana herself (not that we let her, just saying).

DD3's first food was bannana then we gave her peas and after that avocado and she still loves all three of those. I miss those first feedings :( they were so much fun. I wish they would stay babies longer.

EM! Lily and my DS, Nathan, are a few days apart in age...
The other day we gave him Sweet potatoes for the first time (he was showing the same signs of readiness to try solids)
he loved it!!!!!
yay! so exciting :)

DD2 is 6 months and she's had rice cereal, applesauce (which she goes bonkers over), bananas and a pea/brussels sprout puree. I basically just feed her whatever I have laying around and mix it with some cereal and breastmilk.
