I'm using this pattern (http://www.thoughtline.com/doodlesknits.thoughtline.com/) to make Seryozha some longies. These are my first attempts at knitting with circular needles.
Here's my question--when it comes to the legs it says to switch to 10 inch circulars. I don't have 10 inch circulars, nor does my local Michael's. I could probably track down some 10 inch circulars somewhere but that would require more energy than I have right now. Can I use double pointed needles in the same size to make the legs? Isn't the end result the same, the fact that I'm knitting in the round?
TIA

Yes. You will need four double points. Distribute the stitches evenly over three of them (a triangle shape) using the fourth to knit. The only downside is you can drop off your stitches if you are not careful.

And for what it's worth I don't have 10 inch circulars either. I have 36 or 40's.

And since I am serial posting I LOVE circular needles! I use them for many things not knit in the round. I find them easier to manage in general.

No problem. If you need a photo or something let me know.

Sasha,
Have you tried the Picky Pants pattern from Little Turtle Knits?

I have shopped many yarn stores both on line and in physical stores and the smallest that I have ever seen is 19 inches.
I would use double points or do both legs at the same time on two circulars (this is the way I like to do it).
Here is a video on how to do two on two if you are interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RybPvCNfrT8 and continental style http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWPGXoEJuGQ
I too use curricular needle for everything.

yup, I'd use the two circs. they could be much longer than 10" if you do both legs at the same time.
(less hassle trying to get both legs even too)
And thanks for the pattern.

I use double points...I have never used 2 circulars before. Make sure you post pics when they are done :)
