What time do people start lining up for Black Friday deals?

I am sending Dh to Walmart for a very special gift for the boys. One we won't be able to afford this year unless we get the Black Friday deal on it. The doors open at 5 am. What time do you think he needs to be out there in order to be one of the first people in those doors?

No it's a super Walmart though and that's pretty much where EVERYONE around here goes to shop because it's Hicksville, KWIM?

If you are located near where I think you are, I would think 4:15 or 4:30am would be good. I asked my cousin who lives out that way.

Our Superwalmart is open all night. I love it we show like an hour or so early. Scout out the displays and divide and conquer. :p

An hour or so before opening, you can always sit in the car until people begin to arrive if you get there a little too early.

I once waited starting at midnight. Best Buy was handing out vouchers for killer deals. It was about 5ish degrees. Wouldn't do it again but man, we did have a good time. We managed to stay out til around 2, then by 3 I was freezing and tired. We took turns going to the truck to warm up and take a little nap.

It was worth it, got a $1k computer for $200 bucks. :)

The earlier the better. We actually wished we had gotten there about 10pm, we heard poeple at the front started around that time. We weren't close but not at the back of the mall either. Would have been nice if they let us indoors, even if to use the bathroom!

Thank you for posting that I had no idea they might be open 24 hours! So I called and they are!

ETA: So is yours super busy that early and are you able to put things in your basket ahead of time and jsut pay when 5 am rolls around?

One of my girlfriends always goes to Wal-mart on black friday, and she said that they have tarps around the sale stuff, and when 5:00 rolls around they take the tarps off. Also, the put black or colored tarps around them so you can't see what is under there. Once they take them off, she said it is a mad rush to get the items you are wanting.

one of dh's employees does part time at walmart. she says the way they do the black friday deals at the 24 hour stores is everything is kept on pallets wrapped in black plastic, placed random areas in the store. a few employees stand guard over the black wrapped pallets until it is 5 am, then they take a boxcutter cut the black plactic and jump away as quickly as possible.

the girl says that every person who has the honer of cutting the plastic always comes home with cuts and brusies from people jumping all over them as soon as they start to cut the plastic:(

So, I've never gone shopping the day after Thanksgiving EVER. So does Walmart do big sales that Friday?
I love shopping, it's weird I've never shopped that day.
I've heard once of a poor lady who got trampled bad enough at a Walmart the day after Christmas, that she had to go to the hospital.

That is some crazy crap. You would think Walmart would learn from their mistakes and do things differently. Standing in line in a sectioned off area would be best, then you are inside with access to bathrooms and they have the ability to control the crowd.

They could keep the area roped off and only allow a certain number in at a time.

If you really want that item, I would arrive at midnight and bring handheld games, magazines and snacks:)
