(tmi) I am so sick of pads and since I am a side sleeper pads do nothing. Tampons no longer work well and I bleed through them at night. I was thinking last night that I bet a Diva cup would solve these problems WDYT?. I found one for $23 S/H included ( size 2). I can't wait for next month to try it!

I don't use the diva cup. Be careful of tampons at night, wearing them for more than 4 hours increases your risk of toxic shock (so the pamplet inside the box says anyway).

I can't use tampons much at all anymore.

I can't wear mine since I gave birth vaginally. It was never super comfortable to begin with, but after I had Dax, forget it. It pokes right where I healed from slightly tearing, and I've tried everything under the sun to fix it. It always slides back down and pokes me there, and I got sick of cursing and swearing at it. My vagina doesn't like the Diva. I may try a different menstrual cup in the future, but I don't have high hopes.

Fortunately, I've only had one period since he was born.

I thought you could wear them between 6-8 hours... after that you risk TSS

um...what's a Diva Cup though?

I am using a MiaCup now. I have a MoonCupUK and a Lunette, but the MiaCup is way better than both of those, it's also the largest capacity menstrual cup I am aware of and it's soft AND purple!

I love my MiaCup!

Did you cut off the stem?

I found it for $16. I love love love my Diva. It definatally has a learning curve and I had to take the tail all the way off. I will never EVER go back to pads/tampons again.

I hated my Diva for probably the first 4 months that I tried to use it. It took me that long to figure out how to get it in properly. Now I love it.

I love mine, also. It took a few months to get the hang of it, and I had to completely cut the stem off. Also, make sure you cut it completely smooth. You will feel even the tiniest poke if you don't. I love not having to worry about pads. The smell and the mess gross me out. The cup makes me feel so much cleaner.

I had the natural rubber one, loved it. I don't have periods anymore, but if I did, I'd never use anything else.

um...what's a Diva Cup though?

The last time I bought some (it's been a couple of years) the pamplet said 4 hours. Maybe they changed it to 6, IDK.

How does the Diva cup feel compared to tampons? It looks uncomfortable.

The Diva, once you get the hang of it, is so much more comfortable than anything else, IME. I've tried pads, tampons and Instead cups and the Diva has been the best. It took awhile for the learning curve though and it was pretty frustrating at first.

I cut off the stem completely and eventually got the trick of how to put it in right and its just fabu. I only have to empty it twice a day, there is no odor and its reusable! I've never overflowed the cup either, though on the first day (generally my highest flow day), I do empty it mid-day in addition to the morning and night.

huh, I always though TSS was from using too high of an absorbency.

I have to ask about the Diva cup. Is it messy? That is the only thing that stops me from trying it.

I so want to get one of these once I start my cycles again - and I'd love to be able to afford to give them to my sisters!

Now, I'm 30, and I've never birthed vaginally, but I labored to 9cm+ and pushed for 45 minutes - Should I be getting the 30/never birthed vag cup or the over 30/birthed vag cup?

Love my Diva as I have extremely heavy second day and I get clotty stuff (TMI) a tampon just won't keep it back or absorb it and I was leaking within 30-45 minutes. Diva has saved many a bathroom visit.

I don't care for it at night as much because I must change it after four hours so inevitably I have to get up in the middle of the night.

I'm thinking I'll try the Mia thanks to Gypsy's comments.

I love my DivaCup. Like others have said, there is a learning curve.

It looks uncomfortable to me. How big are they?

Another who loves her divacup dearly- I will never go back to pads!

It is kind of big looking it 1st- but it is MUCH more comfortable than a tampon ever was for me. I could ALWAYS feel a tampon- and they made my cramps so much much worse.I do not have that problem with the divacup. After i cut the tail off I rarely feel it at all.
Also, I really thought it would be messy- the idea is messy. But I swear I have touched less blood(or less blood has touched me) using the divacup,It all goes in the cup!
I gently pull the cup out and pour it out. - I don't end up with blood leaking on me from the string like it did with tampons- or ON ME like it was with pads...PLUS because you change the cup soo much less often(well, once you get past that initial learning curve) than a pad/tampon, you are dealing with it all a lot less.

I love my divacup. If I can feel it, then I know it's not in right.

Love my cup too. Not messy at all, though it can be in the beginning when you're learning to use it. Even then I just had a few spots, nothing major or enough to run home and change. A pantyliner should do in the beginning until you get the hand of it. I was scared to cut the stem, but now it's gone completely. I'm so glad to be rid of the smell, the waste, and discomfort.

I tried again to convince my sister to give it a try. But she says it sounds "gross". Lol. Oh well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But coming from pads and tampons, I'll stick with the Diva.

I love it. There is a bit of a learning curve, but I don't plan on ever wearing a tampon again. I do still use a pantyliner off-and-on during the month, but no big pads ever. I was worried about sleeping with the Diva in, then I realized how great it was.

I wish I could say I loved mine. But I have never been able to get remotely comfortable with the darned thing. I do keep trying every so often though. I really want to love it, so I haven't given up yet. But so far, I keep going back to tampons.

A tampon should be changed every 4-8hrs, according to Tampax, using the lowest possible absorbency. (from the site)

Love the Diva cup and will never use a tampon again. I don't even feel the cup, even more so since I cut off the stem.

I like mine, too. And I cut off the stem also.

It is likely that the Diva cup will not be associated with an increased risk for TSS. But tampons provide a fabulous growth opportunity to bacteria, which is why they become extremely unappealing if left in too long.

I have one also. But I haven't mastered it yet. I want to love it, but I tired it three times in one day a few months ago and felt defeated. It sits in the closet still and perhaps when I run out of tampons next I will give it another whirl instead of buying more.

Did you cut off the stem?

Yup. I ended up cutting it pretty much clean off.

When I bought mine, you were supposed to buy the latter one, even if you had a C/S. It didn't specify vaginal birth only. It said to use the same one regardless of whether or not you had a C/S. I don't know if they changed it since, but that's what it said when I bought it.

I so wish I could get the hang of it. I've been working on it for over a year.

I have one, in a perfectly new package. I bought it in June/2006 and a couple weeks later got a BFP~ between breastfeeding and the IUD, I still have it in the package!

Not that I'm complaining even a little:)

I have a diva also. Can't say I love it fully just yet, I'm still working on it. It will have to wait about a year and a half more. (Don't usually start my Period for a year when BFing.) I can't wear tampons. Way to irritating. Hate Pads. I chafe. I'm making my own cloth pads for Postpartum and going to give those a whirl. Still waiting on the fabric I ordered.

I absolutely love mine to death, I would never go back. If I have daughters, I will be getting them cloth pads/diva cups.

Once I couldn't remember where I put my diva cup at the start of the month and I found some tampons I keep in case a girlfriend needs one... WOW. It reminded me how much better the diva is.
