i have a 6 week old little boy, and he is the light of my life, except since he was BORN he has not given me more than a 45 min break from his mouth on my boob!! he usually isn't even really eating, just kind of using me like a pacifier. I have breastfed 3 other children, but they would eat the eave me alone for about 3 hrs. I need some sleep, and i am almost ready to wean which would break my heart because i nursed all of my other kids for well over a year, and the 2 girls for over 2. please help me!!!!!!!!!

oh, i am new here, and he was full-term and is gaining weight well. i am afraid of giving him a pacifier because of nipple confusion. i don't know what to do and i am just so tired.

Give him a pacifier. He is old enough that there shouldn't be any confusion. My DD really like the Nuk and they stayed in her mouth better. My DD weaned herself from them when she found her thumb
Good luck

I agree... give him the paci.

DS had one from birth with no nipple confusion... and he weaned himself from it at 4 months. Just decided he didn't need it anymore!

As for sleep.. nap with him, just wear a hard-to-get-into shirt. : )
Hang in there!!!!

NUK and MAM are both good brands.

i do sleep when he sleeps. my older kids are from my previous marriage which does make it a little easier, but its just that 20-30 min stretches of sleep don't cut it.

I completely understand!! During DS' growth spurts, he nursed 24/7 and never slept! And every time he cuts a new tooth, it's boob time all day long. It does wear you down.
Just do the best you can. It will get better!!

i just wasn't expecting this. i thought i was a pro, now i feel like a first timer again. i never had problems like this with my older 3. too much milk, yes, but not constant nursing. i sent hubby to the store for a paci because he has been begging me to let him buy one for 2 weeks. i am nervous about how this is going to go down.

ok he brought 5 different kinds home, and it's a good thing too because he screamed at 2 of them, but he seems to like the mam ok. hes sucking on it and not me, so i am going to try to sleep now, i will see if i can get more than 30 min. keep your fingers crossed for me.

Try a ring sling. You can put them in the sling in the cradle position and nurse while being up doing things or sitting half up in a recliner sleeping. It's about the only way I get thing done around here sometimes! I've actually figured out ways to nurse in several carriers not designed for that but the ring sling works best.

Hope something works for you soon.

How did the paci work out? My DD is 15 weeks, and I finally started giving her a paci at 8 weeks because of the same situation you are in. I WAS the human paci. It was sweet, don't get me wrong, but it was VERY difficult to get anything else done. As for sleep...I just nursed her in the side lying position and it was very easy for me to drift off as she was suckling...but that's just me. When she sucked long enough for it to become uncomfortable I would break suction and give her my finger to suck on...which she begrudgingly took. She likes her Nuk paci's decently, but she will only take them at night when she's in a really "I-wanna-suck-constantly" mood. She found her thumb about 5 weeks ago, and will suck that sometimes too. But as the weeks pass, it seems like her constant sucking issues are only at night...which makes it much easier to get things done around the house during the day. Good luck, and be happy that your LO finds you so relaxing. Try to think of it as a compliment. :)

The paci is a lifesaver!!! He slept for 5 HOURS with it in his mouth, and so did I, when I woke up, I ran into his room (waking him up) because I was sure he had died of sids! I feel like a new woman. He sleeps for about 2-3 hrs during the day, and at night he will usually go 4-5 hours. I don't feel like a zombie anymore, and he actually eats at the boob now instead of mostly playing. Thank you so much for giving me "permission" to use the paci!!:woohoo:

Great!!!! I wish my dd would have taken a paci when I needed her too. She hates them all!!! We got through it though. Good luck with the rest of your breastfeeding journey!!!!!
