I have been on both of these products for over a month now. They work well but ever time my supply rebounds my dd will stop nursing cause of something I have eaten or cause I have gotten my period and my supply dips again. So my question is.....Are there any know side effects of long term use of both of these products. I was told by a lactation consultant that it is know to make you over produce but I have never once gotten that. It is hard for me to get my milk production to stay put for any longer then a week before something else comes up that makes my supply dip yet again.

I've been taking milk producing herbs and drugs for more than 6 months, and don't plan to wean off of them until my baby is at least 12-14 months old. There is no known concern WRT longterm use of these medications.

I agree with Kerry. I have heard that tinctures are more effective, like the nursing mothers blend at www.kerrysherbals.com

Also, eating oatmeal is a simple, effective remedy for lot's of moms who experience a temporary dip. There are some good cookie recipes in the Archives forum here.:)

I use the Motherlove brand of More Milk drops I take one mil 4 times a day. It taste bad but works well. I also use Traditional Medicinals brand Mothers Milk tea I take it 5 times a day. It also really helps to nurse as much as possible and I know first hand that this is not always possible but just keep trying. If you are do not have a bad reaction to Fenugreek you can take More Milk Plus drops cause it has Fenugreek in it. More Milk does not. I happen to be sensitive to feugreek so the More Milk works great for me. Both of these products I bought at Whole Foods but you can also buy online. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

JCM - can you tell us what's going on and why you feel like your supply is down? Adjusting your nursing pattern is usually a lot more successful at increasing supply than herbs.

I just ordered the nursing blend from the site that nipple nectar suggested. It is less expensive than the more milk. Anyways I woke up this AM and my breast felt fuller than they have in months. I am still pumping now but Houston I think we already have 9 oz.
Mind you I have been taking a huge load of fenugreek and blessed thistle for months without a huge difference. Just though I would share, best $25 I have ever spent
