Has anyone tried BM in the ear for an ear infection? What were the results?
My DD has had fever for past 3 days. Ped took 1/2 raisin sz. ball of wax from her ear and said the drum is red...she said nothing about fluid in her ear, but prescribed antibiotics. I want to try to avoid the antibiotics since her fever has gone down, and she doesn't pull on her ear.
I did buy some garlic oil too.

I haven't tried it but this is the first time I ever heard that. Although I just googled it and apparently it does work... also found this nifty article http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/166824/10_great_ways_to_use_breastmilk_other.html?cat=5
Hope she feels better soon!

Most ear infections clear out by themselves within a couple of days. I would wait and take her back to the pedi to make sure.

I don't even think it's a fluid filled ear infection. Not to 'play' doctor, but I'm thinking that ball of wax caused the drum to collect bacteria and turn red. Her fever is down today.
Now, do I just tell my Ped that I never gave her the antobiotics b/c her fever went down, and I don't believe in them for ear infections?
I found this article that says 'no' to prescribing antibiotics for an ear infection.

I would print out the article, bring it with you and openly discuss it.

I have never put BM in the ear for reasons expressed in this archived thread:

I agree with IMA (and others) that most ear infections resolve on their own. That Dr. Greene article is a good one; this is another:

I was looking for that thread but couldn't find it. So I googled and came up with various sites recommending it (BM in ear). I was starting to think I imagined the article where it says don't put BM in ears. Thanks, Cheryl :D

Thanks for the thread. It's a good thing I didn't try it. I put a little garlic oil I got from Whole Foods in her ear. I have another appt. in 2 weeks to see how her ear is healing. But no more fever! yay.
