On saturday I took DS into the pedi for a little bit of a cough. Pedi told us it was just from teething...
well he was wrong...
on Monday I took him back in and was told it was a virus... my mom is sick with the same thing so we know where it came from....
Now Nathan is 5 days into a terrible cold...
no temp, or runny poopies...
BUT he is AWFULLY congested with boogers flying everywhere and a bad cough...
He seems to be in good spirits but he has more than a few moments of utter misery- especially before bed.
Aspirating him/ Saline sprays do no good :(
In fact the other day while i was aspirating him he threw his head forward and the thingie wend all the way up his nose and a little blood came out.. needless to say I *freaked*

anyhoo...

Does anyone know any magic tricks?
I am beside myself that hes been this sick for this long and will try anything (within reason!)

yeah we've got a vics humidifier
Also when I or DH is in the shower, the other will sit with the baby in the steamy bathroom

I like the cool air humidifiers better. Also they make baby vicks for babies chest. Or you can use Johnsons Soothing vapors Bath. That is awesome.

Not really much else you can do.

Keep up the saline.

Try dripping a little breastmilk in his nose. It'll help with the nasal irritation and swelling, as well as loosening up the stuffiness. And it won't bother him a bit, I promise you.

Baby Vicks is a better choice for a baby than regular Vicks, but using a little regular Vicks a couple of times is unlikely to hurt your baby.

Try carrying him around in a sling as much as possible. The warmth, closeness to mom or dad, and being upright will help him feel more comfortable.

And I like the warm humidifiers better. The cool mist humidifier is safer when you have little ones running around, but I think the steam humidifier warms up the room a little more and seems to help more. Everybody's different.

I agree with breastmilk in the nose. Of course, if he's like Lily, he may not want you near his nose at all after using an aspirator. She's more tolerant this week than last, though.

I really hope he gets feeling better soon.

while you are putting the vicks on his chest, also be sure to rub some on the bottom of his feet and cover with socks. Sounds weird but it works!!!!
