help! I need to wean my 2-month old ds so I can resume working in a month's time. I tried giving him formula today but he kept on crying and won't latch on the bottle's nipple, so I end up nursing him because I can't bear to see him cry so long and he seems very hungry already. I don't know what to do, I need to start working again because I'm a single mom. any ideas? thanks so much.

Maybe pump at work. Dont know if that will help him take the bottle but he will like the milk better

Is pumping not an option while at work? Many, many of us pump while at work.

Just keep trying with the bottle - It took my baby a solid 8 days before taking it. And don't BF immediately if rejects the bottle.

Is pumping not an option? I have been pumping at work for 7 months and while not ideal, it does work and the pump is cheaper than the formula. Just an option.

I would agree with other posts here and encourage you to pump while at work, if possible. My DS is going on 14 months and Im still at it a few times a day. But then again, I work in a mom-friendly environment and have an office with a door that closes/locks. I was also fortunate that DS never had a problem going from breast to bottle. Also, you'll save a lot of money by not buying formula. I had a period of about two months when I weaned (I started to introduce a little bit of formula when DS was about 4 wks old and continued adding until almost all formula at 11 weeks when he started daycare. I, too, was going back to work and didn't think I wanted to pump. We also struggled with a very painful latch. But then I had a change of heart and gave pumping/nursing another try - took a lot of effort, but so worth it. I would really encourage you to give this some more thought and maybe talk to a LC before hanging up the pump.

Why not continue nursing and use a pump while at work? Being a single mom shouldn't prevent you from continuing to bf... and you won't have to spend extra money to feed your ds. As a single mom myself there is no way I could afford formula even if I wanted to.

With ds I went back to work as a corrections officer and pumped 2-3x per shift for over a year. Pumping while working as an officer in a men's prison was interesting to say the least. lol Fortunately my Lt. was understanding and assigned me to the medical department for most of the time, I did occasionally land in a housing unit though and finding a place to pump there was more difficult.

Now with dd, I am hoping to build my Avon business enough not to go to work for someone else. She is 3 wks now so I don't have much time left. But... if I do end up returning to outside employment you can bet my Medela will go with me. I refuse to even bring formula through my front door. ;-)

Good luck!
