I've decided I want to try to wean from one breast - a problem breast that is always full, engorged, overproduces, etc. I cannot stand the pain any longer and I've tried all methods to try to bring down my supply. Nothing has worked.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

I did not nurse her on this side yet today, but rather gave her stored breast milk when she was hungry and normally nursed on this side (I am block nursing due to overproduction.) Both times I pumped the same amount she took from the bottle - 4 ounces. This didn't make a big difference in the fullness of my breast - I think I could have easily pumped 8-10 ounces on the one side! If I continue to only pump about 4 ounces three times a day on this one side, then decrease the amount after a few days, will this do the trick?

That should work. Sorry you've had so much trouble, but this seems like a good solution. I know of one other mom here who sucessfully weaned to one breast. I believe that she continued to pump to unused breast for donation purposes. Is that an option for you?

You're using cabbage leaves on that side?

I've been using cabbage and all other means to bring my oversupply issue down - but nothing helped. I would love to continue to nurse her, but the overproduction has caused me so much distress that last 14 weeks that I've missed out on many many things - including being a good mom to my 2.5 year old. It is best for our entire family that I get some control over the situation - so I hope to nurse her 3 times a day on the "good" side, then supplement with formula on the "bad" side once I can dry up. I'm afraid it will take weeks/months until the one side stops producing. Is going "cold turkey" on one side even an option? I know it will hurt, but not much more than what I've already endured.
