View Full Version : The Mother of all Christmas Trees

I bought it so you'll have to settle for second best. It's a Noble Fir (http://www.santasons.com/noble_fir.htm) from Oregon. It's the most beautifully shaped, perfectly layered, incredible fragrant Noble Fir I've ever laid my eyes on. And I've seen thousands having sold Christmas trees for several years. It is, without a doubt, the Mother of all Christmas Trees.
Hoping you and your charlie brown tree have a pleasant holiday season.

Oh women of little faith, why dist thou doubt? I see you need a visual. I can take a picture of it, but after that, I'm lost. Computerly speaking. I'll see if I can get somebody to do it for me though. She's a beauty but I've been known to ever so slightly exaggerate.
If you live in California or Oregon or Washington or N. Carolina or Michigan or all the way up into Canada, you can probably step out your front door a cut a real beauty. We have to have 'em shipped down here to Texas. When somebody in Texas says "we cut our own", that tree will be a sight to see!:)

I grew up where people cut their own, but they weren't noble firs. "lol9" I truly hate that I'm allergic to damned nearly everything and, thus, can't have a live tree.

Nobles and Fraser Firs last a long, long time and are by far the most popular sold in Dallas.
A friend of mine owns one of the biggest tree lots in Dallas. I sold and delivered for him for several years. The money that some people will spend, you probably wouldn't believe me if I told you. I've been in the Hunts house (billionaires), one of the Bass brothers (billionaires), Jerry Jones house (owns the Dallas Cowboys), the Marcus' of Neiman Marcus, all on tree deliveries. The way some people live.
Ross Perot's yard people come and pick up all of his trees. He doesn't let delivery people on his property. The Bass house is like a fortress. A guard gate on the way in that had three FBI looking guys who stop you and give you the once over. On the way out at the other end of the circular drive, another guard gate with three more to give you the once over again. All the probing questions and not even a freakin' tip for my trouble!:(

I would love to tell you that I'm surprised, but I'm not. This issue was discussed here one time (Love_Monkey, who was delivering pizzas to very well-off people, brought it up), and a few people got offended.

I hear you, we used to have real tress when I was little. I loved it, but then I would end up so sick, and my parents figured out it was the tree. No way could I bring one in this house. DD just picked up a pine cone the other day and her whole little hanbd was red and swollen.:(

We went to cut down our own tree this year, but it ended in DS2 being frozen in place like Ralphie in his snowsuit (A Christmas Story) screaming, "eet too indy" Wind, snow, and his wrath made us drive to a place and pick out our tree.

I'm seriously laughing my ass off picturing this in my mind!
And Troll, I want to see that tree, so get somebody with computer savvy (perhaps the lovely Snack) to post a picture!

We go out and hunt our own Canadian pine. It is lovely and nice, and wild. I cannot support the farming of trees and the atrocities that go on at tree farms. Peta will be watching you.
Because trees are people, too.

I imagine it is just, well, noble.
Troll, you reminded me--I got my brother Boys will be Boys for the holidays and just read the J.P. section--what a great addition to the book. I remember you posting the picture of you three once. Would you or Snack consider PMing or emailing me that picture so I can show Brian when I give him the book? I know he would love to see J.P. to put a name with the face.

I'm glad you are. I wasn't then. I was ready to cry because my storybook idea of us going to cut down a tree was smashed. lol Now, I can laugh. We always have something go wrong with our tree. Every year. Thankfully, DS2 took that burden upon himself. ;)
Next year we are going out in September, tagging a tree, and then going to cut it down in December.

You would be provided the finest luxury tent in my backyard cause I gotta have my tree!
I beg to differ that I, indeed, have the mother of all trees, sitting in my livingroom as we speak. unlike the OP, I have pics to prove it:) It is so vast, a picture can hardly capture it's ginormity.

There will never ever be another live tree in my house again. I was traumatized as a child by a tree that hidden in the branches had a preying mantes nest. Once in the warm house for a few days the nest hatched and our home was taken over by hundreds of baby mantes. And we couldn't outright kill then because in pa at the time there was a 200 dollar fine for killing just one of them. It was a horrible Christmas finding the little buggers everywhere and then shooing them outside, where they then died of cold.

The last live tree my parents got died early. They couldn't tell why it had died so quickly. On Christmas day, my sister discovered (she has REALLY long, curly hair), that the tree was infested with caterpillars! Yuck. That was pretty gross.
So far NN's tree takes the cake. :)

*gasp* That is a big tree.
Our first tree was so big that I had to take a chair out of the living room. lol I kept seeing these huge trees last weekend and saying, "we have 10 foot ceilings!!!" and DH would say, "but we can't move in the room with that tree. What do you want to just have a tree and the table?" I swear the man is a mind reader.

That's an impressive tree, NN. Very impressive. A tree that size down here is called a 'Texas Tabletop' tree.:)
Here is a starter pic of mine, I'll try to post more later. My daughter Colleen was visiting from Austin last weekend so that's her in the pic. For those that don't know, she is 6 feet tall. I just noticed that Whiskers is in the pic too. I hate that cat.

Secondly I HELPED decorate Amberry's tree and let me tell you it is HUGE. I am scared of heights and had to stand on top of the ladder just to "try" to reach the top which I still could not do and I am also 6 feet tall.

The celilings throughout most of the bottom floor of my house are 20 foot, except the celings in my bedroom and kitchen are 12 foot then the ceilings throughtout the second floor are regular sized, whatever that is, 9 foot I think. Except the theater room, those are vaulted.

Yes, thank you!
PEM, the 'boys? It's December and all so I guess they were in a gift giving mood. Both teams looked like inept junior high school teams. They should have called it for lousy play.
I look forward to them bouncing back against the Giants at home Sunday night. I think the Cowboys will beat 'em. I should invite Capt. Heather over for a night of smack talk.

Smartly dressed servents? Nope, we've none of those, but raggedy kids, ah yes we have several.

That's a gorgeous tree Coconuts, and a very gorgeous family. It looks like a Scotch Pine and the biggest one I've ever seen. For some reason that I don't know, Scotch Pines are shipped to Texas no bigger than about 6'. The really big ones shipped down here that you see in malls or outside are either Douglas firs or Spruce trees from Michigan.
My friend who owns the tree lot here in Dallas grows his own in Michigan. I went up there with him one year. It's very beautiful. In Nebraska and Iowa, you'll see acres and acres of corn fields. In Michigan, it's acres and acres of Christmas trees. It's a sight to see. Especially when the trees are all tipped with snow. People pay a lot of money to flock them to make them look like that in their living room here.

Well, I *could* but I'd probably be hauled off to jail ;) We used to go to a tree lot when I was little where you could cut your own trees. And there are huge pines just growing all over the place. Pine trees and palm trees. This year I'm pretty sure we'll be going to Home Depot to get one though.

Now that made me laugh. My 5yr old told me today that he thought we should "get servants". I told him we could have as many servants as he could afford. No servants yet.
